Why is Morocco not an African Union member state?

I learnt from different sources that Morocco is not African Union(AU) member state. Can someone assist me why this? Appreciate.

Simply because the then OAU now AU recognise the Western Sahara as a independent state and yet was a part n parcel of Morocco sovereignty. Do you remember polisario fighters? That is the issue.
