A sweeping joint security operation targeting homes linked to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has uncovered cash, luxury assets, sensitive documents, and electronic devices that investigators believe could form part of a major corruption and money laundering case. The coordinated raids, which began over the weekend and intensified on Tuesday, are part of what authorities describe as a wider anti-corruption crackdown.

According to investigators quoted by the Daily Monitor, security teams recovered several sacks reportedly filled with Shs50,000 bank notes from some of Among’s residences. Detectives also reportedly found bundles of foreign currency, including US dollars and Euros, during searches conducted at properties in Nakasero, Ntinda, and Kigo.
The recovered items reportedly include:

2. Land titles and property ownership documents
3. Company registration files and bank documents
4. Cheques and financial transaction records
5. Mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and smart watches

8. Internet and networking equipment

Security officials say the materials are expected to be used as exhibits in investigations into alleged illicit wealth accumulation, abuse of office, money laundering, and possible violations of Uganda’s Leadership Code Act.
One of the dramatic moments during the operation occurred at Among’s Nakasero residence, where investigators reportedly discovered a medium-sized safe inside the house. According to reports, the safe could not immediately be opened because keys were unavailable, prompting security teams to bring in firefighters equipped with heavy-duty cutting machines to force it open. Sources cited by ChimpReports publication said some money was recovered from inside the safe, although authorities did not publicly disclose the exact amount.
The raids were carried out by a multi-agency security team comprising officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS), Special Forces Command intelligence units, UPDF personnel, Crime Intelligence officers, and forensic experts. Armed personnel heavily cordoned off the residences as forensic teams examined documents, electronic gadgets, and property records.
Witnesses described scenes of tight security around Among’s upscale residences in Nakasero and Kigo, with roads blocked off and access restricted. At the Kigo residence, a police recovery truck was seen towing away Among’s luxury Rolls-Royce vehicle as investigators expanded the operation.
The crackdown has since spread beyond her homes. On Tuesday morning, security operatives sealed off the offices of Anita Among and Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige Kasaija at Parliament, declaring them active crime scenes. Investigators were reportedly seen dusting safes, electronic devices, files, and furniture for fingerprints and forensic evidence.
The operation comes amid growing political pressure and public scrutiny surrounding Among’s wealth, luxury lifestyle, and alleged financial dealings during her tenure as Speaker of Parliament. Security agencies say investigations are still ongoing and additional arrests or court proceedings could follow once evidence analysis is completed.
