Wanawake nchini Kenya wanaotumia kivuko cha Likoni, wametaka uwepo wa Feri ya wanawake na wanaume kama Vilivyo vyoo baada ya wanaume kushindwa kuzuia hisia zao kwa tamaa na kuwachafua wanawake.
Wamedai wamekuwa wakiripoti vitendo vibaya ikiwemo kushikwashikwa na kubusiwa ovyo ovyo lakini hakuna hatua zinazochukuliwa. Hata hivyo kuna wanawake wasio na aibu ambao wakifanyiwa hivyo hutulia na kuona ni sawa.
Hivyo wameona Suruhisho pekee ni wao kupewa kivuko chao Wenyewe ili wavuke kwa Usalama na kwa raha zao
“Tunapatwa na dhuluma chungu nzima, baadhi ya wanaume hushikashika kwenye sehemu zetu nyeti nyakati mna msongamano, ikizingatiwa wakati huo tunakimbilia feri ili kufika kazini mapema. Hali hii imekuwa tangu nyuma hadi wakati huu bado ipo dhuluma". Alisema Mwinyi

Women from the Coast region who use the Likoni Ferry channel regularly have complained to the Kenya Ferry Services (KFSL) that they frequently get ‘illegally caressed and touched’ on their private parts by unruly men who take advantage of the occasional commotion and pushing while boarding the ferry.
Led by activist Fatma Mwinyi, the women said on Thursday December 3, 2015 during a protest at Likoni that they often find themselves in danger of sexual harassment when a massive commotion to board the ferry arises, especially in the morning and evening rush hours.
(We get sexually abused by men who touch our private parts whenever there’s commotion to board the ferry in a rush to get to work early. This has been the case for a long time, till today),” Mwinyi said during the demonstration.
She added that some shameless men even carry on with the behaviour on the ferry, especially when full during a crisis, Mombasa County News reported.
Mwinyi appreciated the fact that KFSL had introduced separate waiting bays for men and women, but wondered why one is closed at times, forcing both genders to use one bay, hence giving opportunity to the sex pests.
The women said that it is not the first time they had filed the same complaint with the state corporation, yet little had been done to combat the vice.
They called upon the corporation to act fast and find a lasting solution to the menace.
