James Maina has been named the new interim Director General of the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat (VDS).

After being recommended by the Board and appointed by Principal Secretary Bonface Makokha, Maina leaves the State Department for Economic Planning (SDEP) to join the Secretariat.

Kenya's development agenda has been significantly shaped by Maina, according to SDEP Administrative Secretary Haron Komen.

"Mr. Maina has been instrumental in establishing Kenya's development strategy throughout his career. Under the Kenya Vision 2030 framework, he played a key role in the creation of the Third Medium Term Plan (MTP III) and oversaw the formulation of the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV), he stated.

Additionally, he said, Maina was in charge of country reporting on the First Ten-Year Implementation Plan for Africa Agenda 2063.

Maina takes over for Kenneth Mwige, who went on terminal leave on April 1, 2026, before his tenure expired on June 30, 2026.
