The United States of America has sponsored Tanzania Police Force (TPF) over 40m/- law enforcement equipment.
A statement availed to this paper from the US embassy in Dar es Salaam yesterday said already the sponsorship had been presented by the US Embassy to the TPF.
Regional security officer Jeremy Yamin presented about US$25,000 during a ceremony in March 22, this year, said the statement.
According to the officer, the equipment sponsored by the American people underscored the commitment of the United States of America to partner with the TPF to strengthen its capacity to serve the people of Tanzania.
In every nation citizens must have trust in its security institutions, especially with regard to public protection, access to justice and combating the scourge of human trafficking. We believe this equipment will contribute to meeting those goals," said Yamin.
The equipment includes two laptop computers, six digital cameras and one printer for the TPF's criminal investigations division (the human trafficking unit), one power point projector for the training division and two 5 kilowatt portable generators for the operations division.
The statement said further that the US had also provided the Field Force Unit (FFU) with a 5-kilowatt portable generator, one digital camera, 30 flashlights, 12 ballistic vests, 12 ballistic helmets, 12 ballistic shields and 20 handcuffs.
The event was attended by Senior Superintendent of the Police (SSP) Jackson Kaganda and nine senior police officials.
US assistance to the TPF also includes 25 basic and advanced training courses for over 300 police officers, support for community policing programmes, the rehabilitation of the police forensics laboratory and support and equipment for the maritime security programme.
