Union of north and south korea

The main reason for the split of Korea into north and south Korea after the end of WW2 was almost over.What makes them to be apart till the whole world being in tension of the break of another threatening war?The Germany which also suffer the same consequence has already united;What makes Korea not to unite?Is there benefits behind the existing tension to superpowers?Have they fail to unite Koreans to their origin state before the World get into destructive wars?

My take:The union of the Koreans will release the existing tension between them and the world at large,hence involve into other genuine issues that face our communities globally
