YOWEL K MUSEVENI PAID $
10,000,000(10Million DollarS) Per
Each Day To Airtel, MTN, SMile,
UTL
FOR CUTTING OFF FACEBOOK,
TWIITTER, WATSAAP AND MOBILE
MONEY (Full Story Here)
Ugandans pay $400,000 per hour
to stay off Social
Media, Mobile Money.
Uganda’s President Yoweri
Museveni committed the
country to pay telecom companies
$400,000 per each
hour they don’t avail social media
and mobile money
platforms to their clients. Our
sources have confirmed.
Having realised that the vote
rigging machinery was
being tracked using social media,
the Ugandan despot
took a desperate measure to close
down Whatsapp,
Facebook and Tweeter. Switching
off mobile money
meant that the same anti-rigging
machinery could not
be financed, mainly in rural areas.
He called an emergency meeting
with Uganda
Communications Commission
Executive Director
Godfrey Mutabazi together with
the Country Managing
Directors of MTN, Airtel, Africel,
Vodafone, UTL and
Smile.
In that meeting, the President
directed them to switch
off mobile money and social
media. The telecom
companies replied by saying that
switching off the
platforms is no problem but that
there’s a cost
because they’re here as investors
and not as charity
organizations.
They informed the President that
they make sales off
mobile money transactions and
data usage by the
public. They revealed to the
President that data usage
per day is $4,000,000 million
while mobile money
transactions generate $6,000,000
per day.
Added together, telecom
companies demanded that
Uganda pays $10,000,000 per day
their investment is
not generating income. Power
hungry as he is, the
President instructed the Minister
of Finance Matia
Kasaija to sign a quick
memorandum of understand
with the telecom companies,
committing Uganda to pay
the above sums of money - $10
million per day of
switching off.
It is because of such reckless
decisions that Ugandans
overwhelmingly voted to remove
President Museveni
and install Dr. Kizza Besigye as
President.
The likely bill by Monday could be
as high as
$60,000,000 million (UGX 204
billion) for a six day shut
down. That is money Ugandans
have wasted or
donated to Telecom Companies,
money that should
have gone to social welfare of
citizens.
The final bill could be as high as $
150 million
depending on how long the
shutdown is in place!
Remember, about 1 million homes
depend on Mobile
Mobile businesses for
employment to place a meal on
the family table. The cost to
national treasury in terms
of taxes to the Republic is not
included in the above
figure. The Rent and rates for
Mobile Money kiosks is
not included.
Ordinary Ugandans who depend
on sale of Airtime or
Datatime for use of internet have
had their daily
income severely disrupted
because of loss of income.
The action shutting down social
media and mobile
money is costing the economy far
more harm than any
violent demonstration of any
magnitude could have
caused. It is 'digital economic
rampaging on a
devastating scale.'
