Security forces have arrested eight suspects and recovered two firearms during an operation targeting suspected armed criminal gangs in the Acholi sub-region.
The operation was conducted as part of efforts by security agencies to disrupt criminal networks accused of carrying out violent activities in the region. Authorities said the suspects were picked up following intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying individuals linked to armed crimes.
During the operation, security teams recovered two guns believed to have been in the possession of the suspects. The recovery of the firearms has raised concerns over the presence of illegal weapons in the hands of criminal groups operating in the area.
Police said the suspects are being held to help with investigations as authorities work to establish their alleged involvement in various criminal activities. The suspects will face further legal procedures once investigations are completed.
The crackdown comes amid continued security efforts across northern Uganda to curb violent crime and dismantle groups suspected of terrorising communities. Authorities have urged residents to share information with security agencies to help identify and prevent criminal activities.
