Appeal: Missing Leeds Man

Police are appealing for information to trace a man reported missing in Leeds.

Leeds District Police would like to speak with anyone who has seen or has information about Kalist Musinga (50) who was reported missing yesterday evening 19/12).

Mr Musinga was last seen on the evening of Thursday December 18 by relatives before he was due to attend a work Christmas party at the New Dock Bar opposite the Royal Armouries in Leeds later the same evening.

Enquiries have determined a last possible sighting of Mr Musinga at 01:20hrs on Thursday (19/12) outside the Holiday Inn hotel near to the taxi rank.

Mr Musinga, who lives in Leeds, is described as a black male, 5ft 11" tall and was wearing a burgundy coloured shirt, black shoes, brown/grey trousers and a black coat.

Detective Inspector Marc Bowes, from Leeds District CID, said: "We are concerned for Mr Musinga's welfare as it is out of character for him not to be in contact with his family.

"Searches have been ongoing around the area surrounding the Royal Armouries and I would encourage anyone with information or who may have seen Mr Musinga to contact Leeds District Police via: 101.

"I'm particular keen to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of the Holiday Inn or New Dock, taxi drivers who may have been collecting fares from the taxi rank and security or event staff that may have been working nearby."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District CID via: 101 and quoting log number 1663 from the 19 December.

Family of missing Leeds man Kalist Musinga informed after body found in lake

A body found in a lake on the outskirts of Leeds is thought to be that of a man who went missing after his work Christmas party.

Kalist Musinga disappeared in the early hours of Friday, December 19, after attending a get-together at a bar near the Royal Armouries in Leeds city centre.

The 50-year-old father of one, of Burmantofts, Leeds, had been celebrating with colleagues from Leeds-based BPP Law School.

Despite underwater searches of the River Aire, he has not been seen since.

But a police spokesman said a passerby found a man's body in a lake off the river near Leeds Road in Allerton Bywater – about 10 miles away.

Mr Musinga's family have been informed.

The spokesman said: "At 4.50pm yesterday police received a report of a body being found in a lake in Leeds Road, Allerton Bywater.

"Officers attended and the body was recovered with the assistance of police divers.

"The body is yet to be formally identified. The family of missing Leeds man Kalist Musinga, who went missing near to River Aire in Leeds city centre on December 19, have been informed."
