[h=1]City feeling title race pressure admits disappointed Hart[/h] Published 23:00 27/12/11 By James Nursey

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...itle-race-admits-Joe-Hart-article846694.html#

Joe Hart admits his Manchester City side are feeling "the pressure" at the top of the league but insists they are still favourites for the title.
Roberto Mancini's league leaders failed to score in the Premier League for the first time this season in Boxing Day's 0-0 draw at West Brom.
Manchester United's thrashing of Wigan has ended City's lead and the rivals are now just separated by goal difference.
United could take sole possession of first place on Saturday when they host Blackburn, as City do not play until Sunday at Sunderland.

England keeper Hart, 24, admits the title race is turning into a tense, unpredictable affair. But he insists City are not cracking up after just two points from nine on the road and claims they remain the "team to beat".
Asked about City's title credentials being under scrutiny, Hart said: "Let them make a lot of what they want.
"We're top of the league, still playing well, still creating chances. We're the team to beat and we're enjoying that.
"It's not always going to be as easy as we've made it look, and that was proved.
"The league is not set up for us to win it. Everyone has their private little things that they're doing - if they're not challenging for the title they're challenging for Europe, if they're not challenging for Europe they want to stay above the relegation zone, so everyone has got their own agendas and that makes for a great league."
Mega-rich, Abu Dhabi-owned City are desperate for their first title since 1967-68 - when they finished two points above United.
They topped the table at Christmas this year for the first time since 1929 but have since seen their lead evaporate.
Defending champions United have now recorded successive emphatic victories over Fulham and Wigan to cut the gap.
And Hart admits Boxing Day's draw at The Hawthorns, where Albion strikers Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie were dangerous, was symptomatic of the tough challenge now facing City.
He added: "Of course we feel the pressure. Everyone felt the pressure from West Brom. We felt the pressure from Odemwingie and Shane Long .There is all sorts of pressure.
"But we're applying pressure as well, which is what makes it so good."
Hart refused to be too downcast over dropping points at West Brom.
He said: "At the end of it, we want to be winning games but if you aren't winning it's still nice to have that cushion of being top of the league. You have got to earn this title. It's hard work."
Hart had few saves to make at Albion but had a let off when Jerome Thomas hit the post and Long headed wide.
The keeper said: "Of course it's disappointing. West Brom have set out for a point and they got it.
"We need to be winning these games but we haven't and we move on. West Brom were brilliant."

ambazo hazikumaliza nafasi zote 30," alisema Wambura ambaye hakutaja majina yaliyowasilishwa TFF.

"Ni majina 25 tuliyopeleka, kuna tatizo lilijitokeza, tayari tumeliweka sawa, " alisema Kamwaga ambaye hata hivyo hakuwa tayari kutaja majina yaliyopelekwa TFF wala walioachwa.

[h=1]Milan prepared to let Tevez transfer saga drag on[/h] Published 22:00 27/12/11 By Neil McLeman

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/tra...-to-sign-him-on-loan-only-article846730.html#

AC Milan have warned Manchester City they are prepared to drag out negotiations for Carlos Tevez for another month.
The Serie A giants want to take the City striker on loan, but without a clause in the deal committing them to buying him in the summer.
Now, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has said his club will not sign any other players - including Catania's Argentine forward Maxi Lopez - because they want Tevez.
"Will Tevez be a Christmas present for the fans? It's tough in a period of economic difficulty, but we will try to keep the supporters happy.

"Maxi Lopez? Catania have been very kind and open, but I made a promise to Carlitos [Tevez] that we'll wait for him until January 31.
"If Tevez does not arrive, then we will stay as we are."

[h=1]Malouda: I don't want to go to Russia[/h] Published 09:52 27/12/11 By MirrorFootball

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...to-join-Anzhi-Makhachkala-article846668.html#

Florent Malouda has poured cold water on talk of him moving to moneybags Russians Anzhi Makhachlaka to part-fund a Blues swoop for Kaka.
Andre Villas-Boas has been told the Real Madrid star is available in January for £22m, according to reports.
Malouda has been linked with a £6m switch to the side which currently pays Samuel Eto'o almost £350,000-a-week.
But the winger said: "I couldn't even manage to pronounce the name of this team.

"I don't know from where these rumours come, when they don't have any base in reality.

"Me, I am someone who prefers transparency. I don't have anything to hide, so I'm telling you the truth."

Real Madrid are ready to sell Kaka to Chelsea for £22m - a massive £33m on what they paid for him two years ago.
The Brazilian is a personal favourite of Roman Abramovich and that could pave the way for a Stamford Bridge move, despite the fact that at 29 he does not fit in with Andre Villas-Boas' aim of rebuilding with young players.
Madrid are ready to cut their losses on Kaka after Jose Mourinho conceded he is no longer part of his long-term plans, according to the Star.
PSG and Milan are also interested in the former world footballer of the year, once a target for Manchester City.

[h=1]Torres will turn his form around soon, says Mata[/h] Published 22:00 27/12/11 By Martin Lipton

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...elsea-soon-says-Juan-Mata-article846680.html#

Juan Mata is convinced club and country team-mate Fernando Torres will come good for Chelsea.
However, the Premier League's record scorer warns Torres is destined to fail unless he can get back to doing what he used to do for Liverpool.
Torres' first league start in eight games saw him fail to score once again as Chelsea's flickering title flame was surely extinguished by the 1-1 Boxing Day draw with Fulham.
Mata, who profited from a Torres lay-off to open the scoring, insisted his fellow Spaniard was not a busted flush, maintaining: "Fernando was very unlucky but it is true every striker needs a goal.

"Fernando is working hard every day in training and for sure the goals will arrive soon."
That was a message reiterated by Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas, who will have to rely on the £50million flop when Didier Drogba jets off on African Cup of Nations duty next month.
But Alan Shearer, whose record of 260 Premier League goals included reaching three figures with both Blackburn and Newcastle, suggested Torres will only change his Chelsea story if he goes back to striking basics.
Shearer said: "Torres is not running in behind enough. If you saw him against Fulham, he kept on getting the ball with his back to goal and that is making it easier for the defenders, especially when he comes short all the time.
"He can't score goals if he is out wide when the ball is going into the box. He needs to be in the box to score, whether off his backside or a great goal.
"I think his link-up play is good and I'm certainly not saying he's not working hard enough or fighting and scrapping for his team.
"But when you pay £50million for a player, you're expecting him to score goals. And he's not going to score if he's helping the team out at right-back."
Shearer suggested Villas-Boas needs to make Torres feel better about himself.
"No matter how old or experienced you are, you still need a bit of backing from your manager," added the former England skipper.
"I think it's down to Villas-Boas to tell him to stop going out wide or coming back to defend, because they've got other players who can do that.
"Tores needs to be told to get himself in the box where he can cause damage. That's what they spent the money on him to do and that's where he is going to do his best and be great."
Villas-Boas faces another fitness dilemma for Saturday's home game with Aston Villa.
Thigh-injury victim Jose Bosingwa has joined Branislav Ivanovic on the crocked list, leaving AVB with no fit and available cover at the back.

[h=1]EXCLUSIVE: Andy Johnson set to make winter's first move[/h] Published 22:01 27/12/11 By Alan Nixon

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/tra...-from-Fulham-to-Blackburn-article846720.html#

Blackburn boss Steve Kean expects the green light to bid for unhappy Fulham striker Andy Johnson on Wednesday - and make him one of the first signings of the winter transfer window.
Kean is due to meet Rovers director Vineeth Rao on his return from a summit with owners Venky's to secure the cash to carry out the £2million swoop.
The Rovers chief has set up the deal, which would see Johnson handed a bumper contract, and now the club's Indian rulers are set to fund the move.
Venky's have decided to take a gamble on Johnson while they also try to sort out their own finances for possible further plunges in the window.

Kean and other Rovers officials have been anxiously waiting for news about their budget, but landing Johnson would be a step in the right direction.
Fulham manager Martin Jol left Johnson out of his squad for the derby with Chelsea and he may be cleared to move north.
QPR are also keen, but the 30-year-old is not a priority capture for them just now.

Didier Drogba could join former Chelsea team-mate Nicolas Anelka in China, according to reports.
The Ivory Coast striker is wanted by Chinese Super League champions Guangzhou Evergrande, as well as Anelka's new side Shanghai Shenhua.
Evergrande are said to want Drogba after being placed in the Asian Champions League's 'group of death', with 2011 runners-up Jeonbuk Hyundai and Japanese champions Kashiwa. They have snapped up for chinese internationals in recent days as they look to strengthen their squad.
Drogba is also being linked with potential moves to Real Madrid - in part-exchange for Gonzalo Higuain - and Tottenham.

[h=1]McCarthy convinced Wolves are victims of bum decision[/h] Published 22:00 27/12/11 By John Cross

Mick McCarthy praised his Wolves heroes - but claimed referee Stuart Attwell lost his head.
McCarthy claimed Attwell succumbed under pressure from the home fans and made the wrong decision to send off Nenad Milijas for a foul on Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal 1-1 Wolves: Daily Mirror match report
When asked whether it was a red card, McCarthy said: "Not while I've got a hole in my bum!"

McCarthy, who says he will appeal the decision, added: "I think that rarified atmosphere out there is a difficult place to work in whether you are a player, coach, manager, referee or assistant.
"It's pretty pressurised out there and I think there was a lot of pressure on him to do it. He did what he saw. If he sees it again then it can't be. He's (Milijas) got his foot on the ground and makes contact with the ball.
"I don't think he leaves the ground. Somebody said to me: 'he's got his studs up.' Well, you generally do if you tackle with your foot sliding in.
"It was a pressurised atmosphere; every time the ball was in our box it was handball or a foul. Their fans are desperate to win and not have the indignation or upset of having been held to a point by lowly Wolves. How bad is that!"
McCarthy also heaped praise on his players and, in particular, keeper Wayne Hennessey who defied Arsenal.
"I'm delighted and proud. It was a difficult place to come and play," said McCarthy. "Wayne is a good goalkeeper; I think he's one of the best in the league personally. And he gets a bit to do playing behind us! But we know we can rely on him and trust him. It's fantastic - and it was a great performance today.
"Judging on our performance defensively and Wayne's performance we earned a point deservedly so."

YOUNG Africans officials have played down simmering crisis at the club, saying the team will resume training on Wednesday at Loyola Secondary School grounds in Dar es Salaam.

The Mainland Champions are experiencing stuttering preparations for domestic and continental assignments because of, among others, financial constraints.

However, officials insisted that the team will be ready to surprise Egyptian giants Zamalek in CAF Champions League, as well as defending the domestic league title.

Yanga spokesperson Louis Sendeu refused to go into details on Tuesday when asked to comment on Monday's outburst by the team's coach Serbian Kostadin Papic, who fears for the worst when his half cooked team come face to face with Zamalek next February.

Papic said that his squad has not been able to train for the past week because the players have not been paid salaries. He said players told him they need money to feed their families, lamenting further that efforts to contact Yanga leadership and seek solution on the matter have proved futile, as the latter has not been responding to the coach's calls.

"Take it from me, the team will start training tomorrow (today) at Loyola Secondary School. All players including Haruna Niyonzima will be available for training," insisted Sendeu, who, however, refused to be drawn into unpaid players' salaries saga.

Sendeu said the Rwandese (Niyonzima) midfielder arrived in Dar es Salaam on Monday ready to join the rest in training, while refusing to comment on Zambia striker's Davis Mwape where about. It is reported that the Zambian striker packed his bags and left for home following failure by the club to pay him his two months' salary.

Ugandan striker Hamisi Kiiza is also reportedly in dark. Meanwhile, Sendeu said the club has dropped young striker Artif Amour and Zuberi Ubwa from its 28-man squad for next year's CAF Champions League.

He said Yanga have already submitted their CAF list to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) naming players in the list as Nadir Haroub, Shadrack Nsajigwa, Godfrey Bonny, Kigi Makasi, Jerryson Tegete, Chacha Marwa, Juma Seif, Bakari Mbegu, Abuu Ubwa, Issac Job Ibrahim, Shamte Ally and Nurdin Bakari Others are Hamis Kiiza, Kenneth Asamoah, Yaw Berko, Davies Mwape, Iddrisa Rashid Senga, Haruna Nizoyimana, Shaban Kado, Said Mohamed, Rashid gumbo, Pius Kisambale, Godfrey Taita, Oscar Joshua, Stephano Mwasika, Omega Seme, Salum Telela and Athumani Iddi ‘Chuji.'

Meanwhile, Simba have omitted attacking midfielder Ulimboka Mwakingwe and striker Rajab Isihaka from its 25-man squad for the CAF Confederation Cup, which they are due to take part next year. Simba have included in the squad five players from their youth team that won recently in the U-20 Premier League.

The youngsters include Hassan Khatibu, Jonas Mkude, Abdallah Seseme, Edward Christopher, Frank Sekule and Ramadhani Singano. All foreign players, namely Felix Sunzu, Gervais Kago, Derrick Walulya, Emmanuel Okwi and Patrick Mafisango are all included.

Other players in the list are Juma Kaseja, Ally Mustapha, William Mweta, Said Cholo, Shomari Kapombe, Amir Maftah, Juma Jabu, Victor Costa, Kelvin Yondani, Juma Nyoso, Obadia Mungusa, Mwinyi Kazimoto, Salum Machaku, Uhuru Selemani and Haruna Moshi.

Simba face regional opponents Kiyovu FC of Rwanda in the preliminary round of the continental second tier and according to the fixtures released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Msimbazi Street side will play the first leg away on the weekend of February 17-19, before hosting the Rwandans in Dar es Salaam for the return leg a fortnight later.

"Mbona Yanga tu ndio wanalalamika, Simba mbona hatusikia wakilalamika.

[h=1]Dimitar Berbatov's representatives in contact with Bayer Leverkusen[/h] • Tentative talks begin about return to former club
• Manchester United could yet extend striker's deal

Dimitar Berbatov's representatives have confirmed they have spoken to Bayer Leverkusen about the possibility of the striker returning to the Bundesliga club, saying that such reports are "more than just a rumour".
Berbatov has been on the fringes of the Manchester United side this season, starting only two Premier League games, but provided a timely reminder of his talent with a hat-trick in the 5-0 Boxing Day win over Wigan Athletic. The Bulgarian's contract ends next summer and if United decide not to exercise their option of a 12-month extension, he would be able to talk to other clubs at the start of January about a free transfer.
Berbatov spent five seasons at Leverkusen before moving to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur in 2006 and he appears receptive to a return to Germany, should he not stay at Old Trafford.
"Leverkusen have it on their minds to get Berbatov," Ivan Dobrinov, a member of the group which represents Berbatov, told the German newspaper Bild. "There is contact, but nothing concrete yet. It all depends on United's plans. We wait until 2 January.
"Until then, United have the option but if that does not happen then Berbatov would be a free transfer in the summer. The player has never forgotten Leverkusen, the club is still very dear to him. Furthermore, he has a good relationship with the leadership at Bayer."
The Leverkusen chief executive, Wolfgang Holzhauser, also confirmed tentative talks have taken place but accepted the 30-year-old could remain at United.
"I would even say that the contact is friendly," Holzhauser said. "But there is certainly nothing concrete at the moment. I also read that Manchester United would like to extend his contract."

[h=1]Thierry Henry still has the quality for Arsenal, says Per Mertesacker[/h] • Germany defender has been impressed by Henry in training
• Former Arsenal striker could rejoin on short-term loan

Per Mertesacker has endorsed Thierry Henry's credentials for a Premier League return with Arsenal, insisting that the striker "still has the same attitude" that he displayed in his north London pomp.
Arsène Wenger is poised to offer Henry a short-term contract at the club, as the manager prepares to lose Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off on 21 January. Behind the in-form Robin van Persie, Wenger's only other striker is the summer signing Chu-Young Park, who is yet to feature in the Premier League. Wenger has already told Park that he needs to "step up".
Henry, a statue of whom has been unveiled at the Emirates Stadium, has been training with the club while the New York Red Bulls, his employers, are on their close-season break. The Red Bulls have not indicated whether they would be prepared to sanction a loan move for Henry to Arsenal but the 34-year-old would relish the opportunity. And Mertesacker, the Germany centre-half, who signed from Werder Bremen in August, is confident that Henry would prosper.
"I am very happy to play against him in training and it is a great experience," Mertesacker said. "He is playing very, very good. He is a great opportunity for us but I'm not the manager. I couldn't make a decision on what is possible for him or for us. In training, he shows his class and to have him with us is great because he shows his attitude, his experience. He still has the same attitude he showed in a lot of games at Arsenal."
Wenger suggested last week that short-term deals in January would suit him best, as he not only had a "big squad" but there was the need "to see how we can balance our books as well." He has also been linked with a move for the FC Cologne and Germany striker Lukas Podolski, who is another player that Mertesacker knows and rates highly.
"He is a great player, especially for the national team," Mertesacker said. "He scores a lot of goals, and he has a very good finish with his left foot. His left foot is unbelievable and I'm a fan of him. This year, he has scored a lot of goals. He is powerful as well."
The Cologne managing director Claus Horstmann is confident that Podolski will extend his contract at the club. "The fundamentals are clear," he said. "Podolski has a year and a half left on his contract and we want to go into the talks at an early stage with the aim of extending this contract. I'm optimistic that we have the chance [to re-sign him]."

[h=1]Liverpool striker Luis Suárez suspended from Newcastle United match[/h] • Luis Suárez suspended for gesturing towards Fulham fans
• Kenny Dalglish reiterates backing for striker Andy Carroll

Luis Suárez will miss the Anfield game against Newcastle United on Friday after the Football Association handed down a one‑match ban and a £20,000 fine for his one-fingered gesture to the crowd at Fulham this month. The Uruguayan striker, already facing an eight‑game ban subject to Liverpool appealing against the verdict of the FA's tribunal on the Patrice Evra racial abuse case, has also been warned over his future conduct.
Liverpool, who picked up an additional FA fine of £20,000 for failing to control their players in the same Craven Cottage match in which Jay Spearing was dismissed, have decided to accept both punishments and will not be contesting either decision. The club admitted the charge of failing to ensure their players behaved in an orderly fashion but initially contested the financial penalty until an independent regulatory commission ruled it was applicable.
Suárez admitted the charge against him, as did the Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, once photographic evidence was made available, and sources within the club say the intention now is to move on from this relatively minor matter and await the FA commission's detailed report into the Evra incident. Liverpool will almost certainly launch an appeal against the eight‑match suspension once the commission's findings have been made public. The FA are in the process of making a detailed report available, and once Liverpool have been made aware of the exact case against their player and reasons for finding him guilty they have a further fortnight to make up their minds about an appeal.
Suárez, Liverpool's leading scorer this season, has been in England almost a year and has never served a suspension in this country, though just before leaving Holland for Merseyside he was given a seven-match ban for biting an opponent while playing for Ajax. At Fulham he was apparently upset by sections of the home crowd accusing him of cheating by going to ground too easily. Dalglish has never attempted to defend his gesture, though he did use a DVD of the same game to support his view that Liverpool players were not getting a fair crack of the whip from referees.
Suárez's absence against Newcastle makes it more likely that Andy Carroll will start against his former club, though Dalglish refused to confirm as much on Wednesday and insisted everyone in the first team, not just his £35m centre‑forward, needed to take responsibility for scoring more goals.
Carroll started the last game against Blackburn Rovers but was unable to get on to the scoresheet despite two or three decent chances in the 1-1 draw. Dalglish has made no secret of the fact that he finds questions about Carroll's low scoring rate and limited appearances tiresome though he at least conceded it was a legitimate subject for discussion ahead of a game against Newcastle.
"Anyone who started the game against Blackburn has a chance of starting the next game," the Liverpool manager said. "We haven't picked up any more injuries and we are all in good shape. Andy is no different from anyone else, he's got to earn the right to be picked. It makes no difference to me that Newcastle are our next opponents, but Andy is a Geordie lad, he'll always be a Newcastle fan. All I can ask is that he always gives his best when he plays for us, and I think he's done that.
"Since he came here he's gone about his work very well. He is adapting well to the change, and fortunately for Andy we have got much greater belief in him here than others seem to have. I don't think he's short of self-belief, there's no evidence for that, though there is evidence that everyone in the team is short of goals.
"If you go through the list this year from last year, everybody's down. Maxi might be a wee bit in front, that's all. We look on it as a collective job and we'll get ourselves going. Everyone in the team is capable of scoring goals, it's not just down to the strikers. We have never been prolific scorers at any time since I came back, but I believe we'll get there. We've got a huge part of it right over the past year, we just need the finishing touches."
Alan Pardew's team come to Anfield equipped with Demba Ba, one striker who has not been stuttering in front of goal this season. Newcastle already appeared to have done better than Liverpool out of the Carroll transfer without picking up a ready made replacement on a free, one whose goals this season have more than satisfactorily covered the loss of the player sold on the last day of the January transfer window. Pardew may not have got his hands on as much of the £35m as he would have liked, but in terms of a playing replacement for Carroll, Ba has been inspired.
"He's scored 14 league goals this season, so with a guy like that up front I imagine Newcastle will come here trying to attack," Dalglish said. "Newcastle took a chance on Ba when he failed a medical at Stoke and they have been rewarded. I think he has been the pick of their signings this year but he's not the only good player they have brought in. I've been impressed with Yohan Cabaye and a few others as well."
