Now that's the wrong mentality Madam Captain, they're not asking you to be their best friend, but to simply be comfortable around them and vice-versa.

They are my boys, she is my best friend. Of-course she comes first but my boys mean a lot to me as well. If these two sides aren't comfortable around each other, that will put me in a lose-lose awkward situation. And you wouldn't want that, trust me. So, make an effort.
