It's been an interesting five years since the election of Jakaya Kikwete in 2005 until now. We have seen a political enlightenment from a people who in these short five years have seen scandals of corruption, the fall of grace of a prime minister and just recently an emergence of a new political party. The question on the mind of many is what's next?

From different threads on JF I have noticed one matter which seems to be the focus of many, the failure of CCM and what the right party is to take the mantle of government. I see people discussing ways in which they feel the opposition can take leadership and ways to remove CCM from power. Well no opposition party is at the moment capable of taking power and even if they did not much change will be seen. People just don't get it. The problem is not CCM, the problem is the generation which inherited the country from those during the struggle for independence. Yes it's not a political party failure its a generational failure. As a twenty year old I can say for my generation that our fathers have let us down.

There maybe be many reasons as to why the current generation of leaders have acted the way they do. Maybe they think that the same strategies used during the Nyerere era will still work today. Maybe in there mind they had a destiny to fulfill but it seems that advancing Tanzania was never part of their destiny. And now that their time is winding up and non of the potential and promise they once had is showing any signs of being achieved they are in a race of time. A race of time to create some sort of lasting legacy. It is this desire to leave a mark in the midnight hours of their careers that is causing them to do all sorts of things, things which to people with no rush of time see as ludicrous and insane.

My fellow Tanzanians, the way forward, the answer to our questions is not whether the next party in power is CCM, Chadema or CCJ. The way forward is for the next generation to finally get its chance to solve the problems of an age they know most of. If Nyerere and his generation willingly gave up power to the new generation 25 years ago, why are our fathers not ready to do the same?

JF members you can debate all you want as to who or which party should be in power but I guarantee you as long as the current generation is still in power nothing will change. True change will only start to be seen once the handout of power is complete from the current generation to the next. I'm not saying that it's a guarantee that "Generation next" will bring any any changes but I can guarantee that no change will ever come from the present generation. Their heyday is over and most of them are heading for retirement except of course for those few who are still trying to cling on to political power.

So to all of you who feel that a different party is the one to bring change I'm sorry but you are preparing yourself for disappointment. Real change will come with the passing of the current leadership generation and the dawning of the next one.
 
I am sorry, but I see the points you built are very weak to support your conclusion...

Yes the it is the reflection of us as the people, however we have multiple segments of those who claim to be the people of the Republic.

Kule kwenye suala la Mtei na CCJ au makala yangu ya CCJ, nimebainisha wazi huu mgongano wa generation Tanzania na Mwanafalsafa kaueleza vizuri sana na hili ndilo tatizo la Tanzania katika kufany amaamuzi pamoja na mengine yote.

Leo hii mimi na wewe bado tunaonekana ni Watoto tukikutana na kina Sitta na Wazee wengine ambao walikuwa Viongozi tulipopata Uhuru. Wanatuona kuwa hatuna uwezo wa kufikiri, hatuwezi kufanya maamuzi magumu, au zaidi kwa kuwa sisi ni watoto wao basi ni wajibu wetu kunyamaa na kufuata kila wanachosema, kis ani mila na utamaduni huku wanasahau kuwa nasi tuna sauti na uwezo wa kuchangia kwa nguvu na maarifa maendeleo ya Taifa yetu kupitia nyanja mbali mbali na hata upeo wetu wa kufikiria una wigo mkubwa kuliko wao.

Ndio maana ninapong'ang'ania mambo ya Itikadi, ni pamojana kung'amua kuwa Wazee wetu ambao idadi yao kama wapiga kura inaongezeka kupungua, inabidi kuwapiku. Zaidi ya asilimia 85 ya Watanzania ni watu walio chini ya miaka 45, asilimia 70 ya kundi hili ni watu walio chini ya miaka 20 na ndio Taifa la kesho.

Hatuwezi kuendelea kujenga Taifa kwa sisi kudaiwa ushiriki wetu uwe wa nguvu za misuli kutokana na ujana na si upeo wa mawazo au kuwa na mtazamo tofauti na Wazee wetu.

Kwa kuwa kuna huu utamaduni wa kung'ang'ania kuwa Wazee wako sawa kila mara, ndiyo maana hata inapofika katika kupiuga kura, Watanzania wanaendeleza jadi ya kuogopa kutokukasirisha "Wakubwa" na hapa tafsiri ya wakubwa si ya ukubwa wa umri tena bali ni madaraka!

Nimekuwa nikijiandikia kichwani mwangu mada kuhusiana na hili jambo la "seeking to enforce legacy or everlasting legacy" ambalo linawakabili wazee wetu kina Msekwa, Malecela, Mongela, Mwinyi, Sitta, Kingunge na wengine wengi ambao kila siku wanajaribu kung'ang'ania "uzee" na hadhi ya kimadaraka ili wajaribu kumalizia kazi waliyoianza mwaka 1961!

Enzi zile miaka ya 70-80, Msondo Ngoma walikuwa na wimbo uliokuwa ukitoa hamasa kwa vijana ukiwa na beti zinazosema "vijana tujitokeze, wazee wanang'atuka, inafaa kuwa enzi kwa kazi waliofanya". Lakini wazee tuliokuwa tunawaimbia nyimbo hizi walikuwa ni kina Mwakawago, Mtei, Nsekela, Mzindakaya, Shelukindo, Mwapachu, kina Thabit Kombo, Kawawa, Hassan Nasoro Moyo, Kahama, na wengine wengi ambao wako bungeni leo hii na wana zaidi ya miaka 60!

Kama miaka 30 iliyopita walishaonekana kuwa ni Wazee na si kina Eliufoo, Sarakikya, Hasnu Makame, Shaba, Barongo na wengine, iweje leo hii bado Mzee Malecela ni mbunge na si kijana pale Mtera?

So issue is trust and desire of our elders to reinforce their legacy and end up with a higher not (their assumption) while in reality they are sinking the ship!

You might call me cocky or full of myself but sir my points are anything but weak, in fact they are very much valid. You can have a difference in opinion or another explanation as to why things are the way they are but I'm sorry I don't see the weakness of my points. You should give us your points so we can see how strong yours are.

Mkuu naku soma. Wachache wataelewa na najua hata wengi wa watakao kubaliana nami wata kubali kimoyo moyo. Nilijua kuita kizazi kilicho sasa kwenye uongozi ni a failure kitainua hisia tofauti kwa sababu kuna watu wengi tu wa rika hilo wapo humu JF. I hope kuta kuwa na wachache watakao ona ukweli na kugundua kuwa failure inayo zungumziwa hapa siyo ya kila mmoja wapo bali ya kizazi chao kiujumla.
 

Na ndiyo maana kwa miaka mingi wazee wame tulisha propaganda ya kwamba vijana ni "taifa la kesho". Wengine wanaweza wakaona huu ni msemo tu lakini una athari kubwa maana ake hufanya vijana waone kwamba ni wajibu wao kupisha wazee mpaka pale wata kapo kufa au kuachia madaraka wenyewe. Mimi binafsi sija kuwa nikijiona ni taifa le kesho. Hapa nilipo sasa najiona nina mchango mkubwa kwa taifa na safari ndiyo kwanza imeanza. Kwa nini mimi ambae nipo katika productive age niitwe taifa la kesho na watu ambao wana karibia au wamesha fikia umri wa kustaafu? Kwa nini niamenishwe kama ulivyo sema mkuu kwamba mimi kama kijana mchango wangu pekee ni misuli yangu tu wakati akili na mawazo ninayo? Wazee wata nisamehe lakini taifa la kesho wata kuwa watoto wangu ila kwa sasa nisha kuwa taifa la leo.
 

Mkuu wengi wa viongozi wetu wa sasa waliingia madarakani wakiwa vijana. Labda wakati wa ujana kama ilivyo kwa wengi wetu tunaona miaka haita enda na tuta bakia na ujana wetu milele. Hawa viongozi wetu wameshindwa kuleta mabadiliko na ni sasa ambapo umri ume watupa mkono wana anza kuhaha kutafuta jinsi ya kuachasha legacy. Wamesha ona kwamba kwa hali ilivyo sasa wataacha legacy mbaya kwa taifa. Wengine wao mpaka leo wana ndoto za kushika uraisi japo leo hii tuna waita mababu.

Ni muda sasa kwa vijana tuseme basi ime tosha. Na sisi tuna stahili zamu yetu. Natumai vijana wengi zaidi watakuwa na uthubutu wa kugombea nafasi mbali mbali za kitaifa na wao waanze safari yao ya kuitumikia taifa. Watu wengi hawaona kabisa kwamba matatizo ya sasa yame sababishwa kwa kiasi kikubwa na watu wenye umri fulani. kila mtu ana angalia hali ya sasa katika muonekana wa itikadi za kichama tu. Na ndiyo maana nawa shauri haswa vijana waangalia matatizo yanayo tokea sasa hivi yana sababishwa na wakina nani? It's not ageism it's just an observation.

Hii ni moja ya thread nzuri sana maana inatoa atleasst mwanga wa nini tunatakiwa kufanya. Ukweli ni kuwa ni lazima tuanze kuinject watu wenye mitazamo mipya ndani ya systems ambazo zinagroom future leaders.
Kwa bahati mbaya naona kama wazee bado wanaona ni wao tu wenye kujua hatima ya nchi yetu kwa maana hiyo wanaandaa watu na kuwalinda hata kama inawezekana wasiwe na msaada mkubwa mbele ya safari.
Lakini katika debate kama hizi mawazo mapya huja na yanaweza kabisa kutupa fursa ya kutazanma upya nini kifanyike

We should always try to look at things outside the box. We wonder why we can't find solutions to obvious problems, well it's because the obvious is not always so obvious.

If you look at the current breed we have most of them come from the same roots of TANU. it is just that some of them branched out to the opposition when they so that their interest could not be served within CCM. Hense we so the Lipumbas, Maalims and Mremas move to the opposition. It seems that our political parties are more of a "sibling rivalry" between a group which found favor within the main party and those who so themselves as not reaching anyway while in CCM.

I sat down and thought to myself. If today an opposition leader who is of the same age range as the current top dogs in CCM won the presidency, would he make any significant changes? They all grew up in the same time and their era and environment shaped their philosophies and political personalities. If let's say JK was from an opposition party rather than in CCM would he have governed differently.

I know there are people of a certain age would disagree but I challenge them to at least entertain the possibility that where we are right now is not due to party philosophies but rather the age range itself. Our leaders today are not out of touch simply because they are elitists, they are out of touch because they still have the one party, rule by one mentality which sterns from the era they came of age. They are trying to protect the status quo which is a rule by one party and a powerful president in a powerful party which no one dares challenge. That is why today anybody for change especially we the youth a seen as rebellious.

If one is a student of political science they would have come across the theory of the handing over of power. The current holder tries to hold power with everything they got while the challenger to the power seeks to exert their new found power. Here a conflict arises between the safe keepers of the status quo and the new more liberal leaders. So it's not that CCM does not want to leave power to another party it is that the old guards do not want to leave power to young blood. And that is why most leaders in CCM are trying to pass on their positions to their sons because who better to continue their legacy than their own flesh and blood?

So I believe this is a debate worth having. Let's look at our current situation from a different angle. We might find out that our strength and energy should be directed elsewhere. Politics is not like mathematics where if you can't find the answer you can read a book and figure out the formula. It takes a lot of critical thinking. Now with a country like Tanzania where education is more theory than practical you can see why we have problems with critical thinking. We think that there is a formula which if we figure out the answer will just come flowing. That is why we keep looking at our steps in the formula to see which calculation went wrong.
 

Mkuu kama Rev. Kishoka alivyo sema kimila kwetu Tanzania siku zote mzee anajiona yeye ndiyo anajua kila kitu. Wewe jiulize tu ni baba wangapi kwenye familia wapo tayari kumsikiliza mtoto na kumuomba mwana ushauri kwenye maswala mbali mbali ya kifamilia na kimaendeleo? Ni wachache sana. Hivyo basi hata viongozi wetu wa leo ambao baadhi yao sasa wamefika umri wa kuitwa mababu wanaona kupingwa haswa na vijana ni tusi kubwa na ukosaji wa nidhamu.

Na hapa naomba nisieleweke vibaya sisemi wazee wasiwe viongozi wala sisemi kwamba wazee hawana mchango katika taifa letu. Wana mchango mkubwa. Tatizo langu ni kwamba hawapo kwenye capacity ambazo zinaisaidia taifa. Na wengi wao basi bora hata tungeona wana fanya nini lakini wengi wao hawana jipya. Kuna viongozi wengi sana nadhani wange heshimika kama kwa sasa wange baki kuwa washauri kwa vijana wanao chipukia na kuandika vitabu au kufanya midahalo mbali mbali(speaking tours). Lakini wengi wao bila kuitwa mheshimiwa wanajiona hawa thaminiwi.

Mwalimu wa Nyerere alishika uwaziri mkuu mwaka 1961 akiwa na umri wa miaka 39 na kuwa raisi wa nchi akiwa na umri wa miaka 40 mwaka 1962(ali zaliwa 1922). Aka staafu mwak 1985 akiwa na umri wa miaka 63 tena kustaafu kwenyewe ukawa kwa ridhaa yake mwenyewe. Aka baki kuwa mshauri na kushiriki kwenye siasa katika capacity tofauti na alibaki kuwa relevant mpaka kifo chake japo hakushika tena nafasi ya kisiasa. Akafa aki heshimika. Je wazee wetu wa sasa hawalioni hili?

Inawezekana wengi wanaogopa kuogofya wazee na wakubwa! Kuna vijana wenzangu fulani ambao wanafahamiana na "Mkubwa" ukisikia wanavyoongea na kumuongelea "Mkubwa" unaweza kucheka! Wako kama watumwa, watwana na vijakazi! Wana heshima ya woga na ni hawa ambao wanaendeleza utamaduni butu uliosambaa kila mahali ambapo Viongozi wetu wanaogopewa kwa nidhamu ya woga na hivyo huwezi sikia Wananchi wakimhoji Mbunge au Rais hata pale ambapo ni dhahiri kuwa Kiongozi huyu si sahihi!
 

Next is to make sure that we Tanzanians we are going to make a righty choice thru our vote,its not a secrety,the rulling party CCM have disapointed us to great extent,no need of voting for it again,we gonna suffer for the next five years,so next plan is to create awareness to all Tanzanians that hakuna lolongolongo wala kumung'unya maneno,past five years CCM wametulostha mno,

The current generation which make all these difficulties that we are facing bellongs to the rulling party CCM,CCM is not a merely thing,CCM is defined by people inside it,so when we are talking about eradicating the current generation,essentially we meant uprooting CCM
It is because of the way they got into power(corruption) and their selfishness,nothing else,this is the straight answer.
To add some point in this, the next rulling party should not be CCM,lets look for another alternative
