Queen Mother Best Kemigisha is facing another painful royal farewell, nearly 31 years after she lost her husband, Omukama Patrick Matthew Kaboyo, the former King of Tooro.
Kaboyo died on August 26, 1995, leaving behind his three-year-old son, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. Just weeks later, on September 12, 1995, the young Oyo was enthroned as the King of Tooro, making him one of the youngest monarchs in the world.
For Queen Mother Best, the death of her husband marked the beginning of a new chapter in her royal life. She became the mother of a child king and remained a central figure in his life as he grew under the guidance of regents.
Oyo eventually assumed full administrative responsibilities of the Kingdom after attaining adulthood, going on to reign for nearly 31 years.
On August 27, 2026, King Oyo died at the age of 34, leaving his mother to mourn the son who had inherited the throne from his father.
His death has once again placed Queen Mother Best at the centre of a royal farewell. While Oyo is yet to be laid to rest, his burial will mark the second Tooro king she has lost.
From being the wife of King Kaboyo to becoming the mother of King Oyo, Queen Mother Best Kemigisha has witnessed two generations of Tooro's monarchy — and now faces the loss of both kings.
