Doctors told her family she died of pneumonia, but Tully’s father Nasa Kiwanga believes his daughter died of COVID-19.

What sent his daughter to the hospital, he said, was that she started having breathing difficulties when at home. After that, she was sent to the hospital on Saturday morning. Kiwanga said she lived for only two days with oxygen support, adding that, when the oxygen finished at the hospital, the life of my daughter ended there.

According to a doctor who asked not to be identified, Kiwanga is correct – his daughter died of COVID-19.

Oman has suspended arrivals from 10 countries for a fortnight starting on Thursday, to limit the spread of Covid-19.

The two others are Brazil and Lebanon.

Oman's decision also applies to arrivals from elsewhere if they have passed through any of the suspended countries in the 14 days prior to applying to enter the sultanate

Omani citizens, diplomats, health workers and their families are exempted from the suspension, according to the body in charge of dealing with Covid-19 in the sultanate.

Oman’s ministry of health earlier this month said travellers, especially those from East African countries, had accounted for 18% of new infections.

Two weeks ago, *Emmanuel Abdi a resident in Kibamba in the outskirts of the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, lost his father.

His family says his death was caused by the coronavirus. Before his death, Abdi’s father experienced chest pains, a lung infection and for a long time he has been battling tuberculosis.

He says: “My father didn’t get any medical attention. We are worried with the situation, that’s why we want to protect ourselves from this dangerous pandemic.”

Abdi says his father did not get any medical attention because the government stopped attending to people believed to have Covid-19, after authorities said the country was free from the pandemic in June 2020 after three days of prayers. His family is now in isolation at home.

President John Magufuli has denied that Covid-19 is a problem and cast doubts on the efficacy of vaccines. His government has proposed the use of alternative therapies to deal with cases of illness.
