The Uganda Police Traffic Directorate has launched a tough crackdown on Sino truck drivers following rising concerns over reckless behavior and the increasing number of accidents linked to these vehicles.

Authorities say many of the drivers are young, lack valid driving licenses, and frequently overload their trucks beyond the recommended tonnage. Citizens have also complained that the drivers show little respect for other road users, creating dangerous conditions on highways and urban roads.

In a bid to restore order, traffic police have issued strict guidelines and held meetings with the leadership of Sino truck operators to demand accountability.

The new measures require all Sino truck drivers to undergo vetting to ensure they are qualified and licensed. Any driver arrested for failing to comply with the rules will have their truck impounded and face prosecution in court.

Police emphasized that the crackdown is necessary because Sino trucks have become one of the leading causes of road accidents in the country. For many Ugandans, the move is seen as a long-overdue step toward safer roads. Communities living along major transport routes have repeatedly raised concerns about overloaded trucks and reckless driving, which have led to tragic loss of lives.

The directive signals a stronger commitment to road safety enforcement, but citizens remain watchful, urging authorities to ensure that the measures are consistently applied and not undermined by corruption or negligence.

The public hopes that the vetting and prosecution of errant drivers will reduce accidents and restore discipline among Sino truck operators.
