Ugandan businessman and social commentator
Frank Gashumba has advised young women to avoid asking for food on first dates, suggesting that they should eat before leaving home and keep their orders simple when meeting potential partners.
Speaking during Sofie Love’s presentation of Love ,Fame and money at Next Media, Gashumba encouraged women to eat foods such as chapati and cassava before going on dates so they do not arrive hungry and depend on their dates to satisfy their hunger.
He further advised women to order simple refreshments such as samosas, coffee or tea when they meet men, rather than requesting full meals.
Gashumba’s advice centres on how women should conduct themselves during initial romantic encounters, particularly when they are still getting to know someone. His remarks raise questions about dating etiquette, expectations and whether a first date should come with specific rules about ordering food.
While some may view the advice as a way of keeping first dates simple, others may argue that sharing a meal is a normal part of getting to know someone and that people should feel comfortable ordering what they need.
