Saudi Arabia has never been a true friend of the United States because of its extremist Islamic ideology, but for decades it has been an important ally. its repressive regime has bred terrorists and supported radical Islamic groups.

Black Gold: Saudi rulers have been able to rely on their oil wealth both to pacify their population and smooth their relationship with the U.S. This tool, however, is not what it used to be. Increasing internal demand means the Saudis have less oil to sell abroad. And the U.S., by importing more crude from North America (Canada and Mexico ) and exploiting its own shale oil reserves, has reduced its reliance on Saudi oil.

Combating Terrorism: The U.S. and Saudi Arabia still have common interests in fighting terrorism. Al-Qaeda in particular the most serious terrorist threat to both(US and SAUDI ARABIA)..

Saudi Arabia against Iran: Saudi Arabia is an arch-enemy of the radical Shiite regime in Iran .The Americans and Saudis stood together when Iran was led by the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The Saudis helped undercut Iran’s economy and, along with our other regional allies, share the stated U.S. position of preventing a nuclear Iran by all means necessary. However Hassan Rouhani's (Iran president ) created an opening for a diplomatic resolution to the dispute over Iran's nuclear program, hence separate U.S. and Saudi interests.

Egypt and other Arabs:
Saudia leaders complained that Obama turned his back on Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak after Egyptians rose up against him. Also betrayed both and exaggerated sense of U.S. influence. A confused US keep the fundamentally anti-Western, anti-Israel Muslim Brotherhood either in power or part of the power structure. Riyadh financial support for the military takeover in Egypt. Egypt’s military has been a longstanding ally of the United States and Israeli and Arab allies, which together they share intense dislikes toward the Iranian regime, Hezbollah and Hamas. Saudi Arabia has also been constructive in supporting a weak Yemeni government.

But neither Obama nor his critics (nor, for that matter, Saudis themselves) should kid themselves. Saudi Arabia is not a natural ally of the U.S., and probably never has been.

True, Saudi Arabia Isn't America's Friend, they are America's proxy in the Middle East doing America's dirty work in the Middle East.
