Press Release, March 7th 2015 With a hail of drum rolls, Rwanda wins in the category Best of Best
Over 30 bachelor and master's students at the Cologne Business School studying for a degree in tourism evaluated all 11,000 exhibition booths in three days at the world's biggest trade show for tourism before awarding the best in 11 individual categories and 2 special categories.
The team - led by Dean of Tourism, Prof. Dr. Florian Hummel and Martina Leicher, Director of the tourism business consulting, COMPASS - worked in close collaboration with Messe Berlin, coordinating with them the booth assessment criteria lists in advance.
The evaluation is carried out in two stages; the fifteen best exhibitors from the first round are then scrutinized in a second pass by another team equipped with a more extensive questionnaire. This ensures maximum transparency. The ten best-rated exhibitors in each category have been invited to the final awards ceremony tonight at the Palais am Funkturm.
Prof. Dr. Hummel welcomed the more than 700 guests and summarized the last months saying, „Tonight, the bestowal of the ‚Best Exhibitor Awards' represents a special conclusion of a trade fair that for most of us, along with fascination and great impressions, means hard work, forward planning and a lot of responsibility. For all of us, therefore, this award show is probably a welcome change and a good opportunity for a very nice trade fair finale. For the team of Cologne Business School students, tonight is the culmination of a multi-month project, which was driven by great vigor, high personal commitment and attention to detail."
In his keynote Klaus Gengenbach, board member of the Travel Industry Club, thanked the CBS team, „With the Best Exhibitor Awards you provide our industry today with important impulses and give us an outside perspective, which is so often missed. After all, this is how we find out which trade fair presentation was most convincing, which allows companies to leave a particularly positive impression. This is important for us, because no matter what your business, customer satisfaction is of utmost priority in tourism."
The ensuing awards ceremony was a cultural celebration: dance groups, artists, comedians and many impromptu performances like the Taekwando group from Korea who received standing ovations from the audience rounded off the evening, demonstrating once again just how impressive and important the Best Exhibitor Awards are to the industry.
After a 90-minute live performance, guests crowded into the lounge area to celebrate their success with cold drinks and snacks and to relax after an exciting day at the fair.

MY TAKE
In all this categories i see neither Egypt nor SA nor Morocco the largest tourist destinations in Africa meaning the award is irrelevant as far as attracting tourists however congratulation to Rwanda for winning category best of the best and both Rwanda and Kenya for taking first and second spots in category Africa and category best booth design at 5th and 6th positions respectively.
So lets see how the awards translate into minting money for 2015 knowing Tanzania has earned more tourism revenues for 2014 than all other EA members combined that is Kenya+Rwanda+Uganda+Burundi.
