Proceedings in the case involving opposition figure Kizza Besigye and his co-accused were disrupted after the prosecution failed to be present in court at the time the accused were produced.

The accused, including Obeid Lutale and Denis Oola, were brought before court from Luzira Prison, but the absence of the prosecution team delayed the start of the session, raising concerns about coordination and the efficient handling of the matter.

When he later appeared, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Thomas Jatiko apologised to the court for his late arrival. He attributed the delay to the late service of documents by the defence, explaining that the prosecution was still in the process of preparing and filing a rejoinder.

However, the defence challenged this explanation, arguing that such delays are often rooted in systemic challenges, particularly those arising from detention conditions. They pointed to logistical and access difficulties at Luzira Prison, where the accused are held on remand, noting that these constraints frequently affect timely consultations and the preparation of legal documents.
