Opposition politician Kizza Besigye and his co-accused, Obeid Lutale and Denis Oola, were brought before the High Court of Uganda in Kampala, but proceedings were overshadowed by the absence of the prosecution team.
The case had been adjourned earlier for further case management, and the defence team appeared in court ready to proceed. However, lawyers representing the accused raised concerns after the prosecution failed to appear in court on time, despite the scheduled session.
Defence lawyers also used the opportunity to challenge the prosecution’s application seeking permission from the court to conceal the identities of six witnesses expected to testify in the case. The lawyers asked the court to dismiss the application, arguing that the request should not proceed in the absence of the prosecution.

The absence of the prosecution delayed progress in the case, with the defence questioning the seriousness and preparedness of the state in handling the matter. The court is expected to provide further direction on the pending application regarding the protected witnesses.
