Police arrests two finance ministry officials for soliciting bribes from investors
NTV has learnt that the two had solicited for, and received, a bribe of $60,000 (about 216 million shillings) from Tororo Phosphates company.
Police have confirmed the arrest of two ministry of finance officials for taking a bribe from investors. The officials named in the ongoing investigation are Charles Ogol, an economist in the ministry, and Geoffrey Turyamuhika Tumwine, the head of the investment desk at the ministry.
NTV has learnt that the two had solicited for, and received, a bribe of $60,000 (about 216 million shillings) from Tororo Phosphates company.
In a statement posted on social media, the President thanked the police for the job well done and said the suspects will be charged soon.
The arrest comes on the heels of a litany of complaints from investors over the cost of doing business in Uganda.
