The trio was arrested on Monday morning by the Inspectorate of Government and transferred to Kampala Central Police Station ahead of their appearance in the Anti-Corruption Court.

According to the IGG spokesperson, Farouq Kayondo, Nantume was arrested together with Fred Kalisa, a farmer from Gotokwara in Lungulu Sub-county, and Ronald Wanda, a businessman based in Kiyindi, Buikwe District.

Prosecution alleges that between January 2023 and December 2024, Nantume abused her office by allegedly flouting procedures and allowing the operation of an illegal animal market in Gotokwara Village, an act said to have prejudiced the interests of Nwoya District Local Government.

Kalisa and Wanda are separately accused of stealing Shs20,655,000 belonging to the district while managing the same market during the same period.

The arrests are part of an ongoing crackdown by the Inspectorate of Government on corruption and abuse of office in local governments.
