Waungwana,

In the light of discoveries of vast deposits of natural gas in Tanzania and the plans to use the same for the manufacture and sale, both locally and for export, I cannot comprehend what I read in The EastAfrican of June 22-28, 2013. I quote extensively from the article at pg.46:

"Norwegian Chemical firm.....is to build a $20 million fertiliser terminal in Tanzania.the facility will be built near Dar es Salaam port to facilitate distribution of fertiliser in East and Central Africa at affordable prices......The terminal will be used to receive bulk products from Norway for mixing with local raw materials suitable for soils in the region.....The terminal will have a capacity to hold 45,000 tonnes of fertiliser per day and 200,0000 tonnes per year. The company ...said availability of natural gas, which is an important ingredient in fertiliser production would make the fertiliser terminal a success."

"The Minister for Agriculture, Christopher Chiza said the terminal will boost agricultural sector in the country."

I sincerely do not understand. May be I can get help from JF Members and or our planners! To me it does not add up!!🙂

What dont you understand man? 2m tonnes per year is far higher than tz needs, so needs international biz... Sio?

funguka zaidi what exactly yo dont catchup! I myself felt like these Ministers would have advised investers to open Terminal somewhere kule mtwara, what matter in dsm ni kuongez foleni na Pollution zote(kelele, air pollution nk) hali ikiwa raia wengi wako vijijini mtwara wakiwa jobless. kama ni swala la gesi hata dodoma ingeenda tu, kwani wakikifungua dsm, gase inatoka dsm? waende mbali mikoani.

Mwisho wa Siku Kiwanda Kinajengwa Ndani ya Ardhi yetu ya Tanzania ndio muhimu, hayo ya sijui MT au Dar ni nyongeza tu!

45,000 tonnes of fertiliser per day and 200,0000 tonnes per year...hesabu za haraka haraka zinaniambia it will take 44 days ..hiki kiwanda kinafanya kazi mwezi na nusu tu ndani ya mwaka?!!..au its a typo error somewhere...ila pia I wonder how is it a boost if bulk materials to be used for manufacturing is coming from norway, isn't that more of import rather than export.?. kweli mdau hata to me it does not add up, 1 + 1 hii hainipi 2.

On one hand you do see the need of Dar-es-Salaam expanding further to accommodate its ever rising population and its massive unemployment problem, nevertheless i don't think investments in secondary production will solve the city's problem in the long term.

The government should no longer encourage investments in secondary production anymore in Dar-es-Salaam there is the need of other regions to benefit, especially those which are responsible for primary production this in turn would boost local economies and reduce the congestion of inflows of goods coming in and out of Dar-es-Salaam a city already operating above its capabilities in terms of the available infrastructure.

There are other ports if the business aims to transport the fertilizers into neighboring countries at the same time invoke the government actions in using these regional ports which are now becoming dormant due to lack of business activities also reducing the congestion of ships in Dar-es-Salaam and the road traffics that follows the port from neighboring countries and other regions of Tanzania.

Hapo ndipo serikali wanapoonekana ni wanafiki kwa watu mtwara, mnaleta wawekezaji alafu wanaishia dsm huku mnategemea malighafi itoke mtwara, mbona kama bandari mtwara ipo

There is no typo or other mistake in the figures, trust me. High sounding investor jargon which our planners swallow without chewing, so-to-speak. that is why I called upon someone in the establishment to clarify matters for us.
