Nigerian firm suspended at home for profiteering
The Nigerian firm which was on Tuesday stopped by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) from offloading substandard petrol at Dar es Salaam port was last year banned in Nigeria for selling fuel above the regulatory ceiling price, The Guardian has learnt.
Sahara Energy Resources Limited which faces sanctions by the Tanzania’s Petroleum Importation Coordinator (PIC) for supplying substandard gasoline under bulk procurement system.
The company had in December last year won a tender in Tanzania only two days after it was penalised in Nigeria by regulators because of profiteering.
The firm whose oil tanker, MT Alexander Ridgebury carried 37,000 metric tons of petrol arrived at Dar es Salaam port on December 25, last year and had been denied to offload the fuel by Tanzania Bureau of Standards because of quality concerns.
The firm was suspended in Nigeria for three months to supply any fuel by the country’s Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
