In his Eid message, Prince Kassim Nakibinge who is also known for being vocal against human rights abuse..
"I was made to understand that 7 people lost their lives in Butambala. Up to now, I haven't heard that anybody was charged for the loss of these people's lives. I'm going to ask the DPP to pick interest in this case and take the IGP to explain the circumstances in which these people lost their lives and how come nobody has been brought to book to explain. All I heard is that they charged one MP, Muwanga Kivumbi, for inciting the public. We just wonder why nobody has been charged for the loss of human lives. Was this a way of camouflaging what transpired and a whitewash on one individual? I think it doesn't add up. All I'm saying is that they should be able to explain whether the cartridges they picked at the scene of crime were traced to any particular ammunition that was in the area, and whether those who were in the area were asked to make statements, and what was in those statements. All I'm asking for is fairness and justice for people who lost their loved ones in these elections.’”
The titular head of Uganda’s Muslim community, Prince Kassim Nakibinge, has called on the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to expedite investigations and prosecution in the killing of seven people in Butambala District during the January 2026 general elections.
Nakibinge questioned the delay in holding any individuals accountable for the deaths, raising concerns over transparency and justice for the victims’ families. He urged the DPP to take keen interest in the matter and compel the Uganda Police Force leadership to explain the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
The remarks come amid ongoing controversy over the arrest of Muwanga Kivumbi, the National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President for Buganda and outgoing MP for Butambala. Kivumbi was arrested following the violence and accused of organizing “panga-wielding” groups to attack police, which authorities say led to the fatal shootings.

He first appeared before the Butambala Chief Magistrate’s Court on January 23, 2026, where he was remanded to Kitalya Prison on charges of terrorism and treason. He remains in custody to date.
Nakibinge’s call adds to growing public concern over accountability in election-related violence, with many demanding impartial investigations and justice for those who lost their lives.
He made the remarks while hosting the Muslim community at his residence in Kibuli for Eid celebrations.
