Nairobi residents who work in the downtown region and Central Business District want the city's drainage system completely redesigned.

On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, a lot of the roadways, walkways, and verandas were covered in filthy rainwater, forcing the people to wade through it.

Despite the short duration of the rain—roughly 30 minutes at 4 p.m.—half of the Central Business District was "flooded."

Many office workers were unable to get to their cars, so they had to take off their shoes and wade through the floods.

Residents of Nairobi and the surrounding areas have been advised by the Kenya Meteorological Department to prepare for prolonged rains and thunderstorms in the upcoming days.

Locals now want Nairobi County officials to deal with the capital's ongoing flooding and drainage issues.
