President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Judiciary to fast track the trial of the prime suspect of the murder of the four toddlers in Ggaba and to conduct proceedings within the affected community through a mobile court system. The move is intended to allow residents to witness justice being carried out firsthand.

The directive was revealed by Principal Judge Jane Frances Abodo during the funeral service of retired Supreme Court Justice Augustine Nshimye in Kampala. She emphasized that while courts typically follow a “first in, first out” approach, exceptions can be made for cases of significant public interest. According to her, this case meets that threshold and warrants expedited handling.

The suspect, Christopher Okello Onyum, is accused of fatally stabbing four children aged between one and two years at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Programme. He also allegedly injured another child during the attack, which occurred on the eve of Good Friday and sent shockwaves across the country.

Justice Abodo noted that the Judiciary plans to utilize the recently introduced mobile court framework to ensure swift justice, particularly since Ggaba lacks a High Court. The system, launched under Legal Notice No. 1 of 2026, allows judicial proceedings to be conducted in temporary or community-based locations, improving access to justice in underserved areas.

Religious and government leaders have expressed outrage over the killings. Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba condemned the violence, while officials cautioned against granting bail in serious cases.
