Two people were killed and four children injured after a truck overturned onto a Nissan Murano along the Mubende-Mityana Road in Mubende District on Friday evening.
The crash occurred at about 8:25pm at Kagavu in Kalonga Sub-county when an Actros truck, registration number UBK 132F, pulling trailer UBK 710J, was travelling from Mubende towards Mityana.
The truck landed on the Nissan, trapping its occupants inside.
Police said a crane and a joint rescue effort were used to remove the trailer and reach the occupants.
Four children travelling in the Nissan were injured. They were identified as Johana Bala, 11, Isabella Rebecca, 5, Gabriella Kawini, 12, and Dorothy, 12.
The two adults in the Nissan died at the scene. One of the deceased was identified as Kaijuka Kenneth, 45, while the identity of the second man had not been established by the time of publication.
The injured children were taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital in a police ambulance, registration number UP 4906.
The bodies were also taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said preliminary findings indicate that the crash was suspected to have been caused by careless driving.
Police said efforts were underway to tow the wreckage to the police yard as investigations continued.
