Kazo County MP Dan Kimosho has challenged the government’s defence of the banana industrial project’s long pilot phase, asking how long it would take the country to develop a serious scientific product if converting matooke into powder has taken 10 to 15 years.
Kimosho put the question to Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi, who was defending the 20-year pilot of the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID), now the Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre (BIRDC). “If it takes a country 10 or 15 years to transform matooke into powder, how long will it take it to develop a chemical or some serious substance that is needed in science?” he asked.
