Ronaldo is now favorite to win the Ballon d'Or after winning La Liga and the Champions League during Barca's disappointing season.
Cristiano Ronaldo has enjoyed another successful season. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has finished the campaign with a single trophy despite toping the goalscoring charts, and he’s unhappy about it.
According to Diario Gol, the Argentine superstar is furious with his club for letting Real Madrid and their Portuguese superstar out shine them. With the former Man United ace now favorite to win a fifth Ballon d’Or, which would draw him level with La Pulga, Leo has identified two people to blame.
The report claims that the 29-year-old magician blames Luis Enrique and Jeremy Mathieu for the Blaugrana’s disappointing season. The Catalan giants failed to win La Liga and crashed out of the Champions League in the quarter-final – Cristiano’s Real Madrid went on to win it for a record 12th time.
Leo holds a grudge with Enrique for naming Mathieu in the starting lineup for two games which earned Barca costly defeats. The first was the 2-0 loss to Malaga, which the French center-back started. A win would have seen Messi and Co. retain their league crown.
Three days after that loss, Mathieu was once again given a start, this time in the first-leg clash with Juventus. The Blaugrana went on to lose that game 3-0, a result which they could not reverse in the second leg.
Had Barca won those two games, their season could have been very different. Les Merengues benefited from those two slip-ups, and so did Cristiano.
