The Masaka High Court has acquitted two men accused of killing 10 students in a 2018 dormitory fire at a school in Rakai District.
In a lengthy ruling, Justice Victoria Nakintu Katamba agreed with court assessors that the prosecution had failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Alex Mugarura and Edison Niyo were involved in the offences.
The court acquitted the two of all 48 counts, including murder, arson, attempted murder and attempted arson.
Justice Nakintu ordered their immediate release, unless they are being held on other charges.
