Mao Fires First shot in Uganda's Speakership Battle

The President General of the Democratic Party, Norbert Mao, has described the current Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, Anita Among, as an “accidental Speaker.” speaking to the media earlier today, He meant that she came into office not through a long-planned leadership choice but because she was the Deputy Speaker and stepped up after the death of former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah in 2022. Mao argues that the next speakership should be decided deliberately rather than by circumstance.
