De Gea
After conceding the early goal he was
hardly worked until spreading himself low to
deny Caligiuri. Led his defence well late on
as they held firm under a Wolfsburg
bombardment.
1.
M. Darmian
Got down the left well to deliver an excellent
first-time ball which so nearly created an
equaliser for Mata, but was then easily
foxed by Draxler as the wide-man attacked
him. Showed great strength and cunning up
against Schurrle after the German’s
introduction late on.
36.
C. Smalling
Got sucked in with too much ease as
Caligiuri scored but later made up for it by
sliding the ball home from Juan Mata’s
superb assist to give United the lead.
12.
D. Blind
Didn’t get a foot in on Caligiuri as the wide
man was allowed to escape in the build-up
to his early goal, but looked to create from
deep before moving up into central midfield
after Schweinsteiger was replaced.
17.
Mata
Denied by Dante’s header as United went
searching for an equaliser, then scuffed an
effort straight at Benaglio. Always looked
his side’s best outlet though, and he netted
from the spot after his cross brought about
a penalty. His best moment came when
teeing up Smalling’s goal with a wonderful
side-foot flick over the defence. Genius!
8.
A. Valencia
Was far from the only man to blame for
Caligiuri’s opener, but his lack of awareness
deserves highlighting. Tried to get forward
at times but had little success before being
replaced at half-time.
25.
B. Schweins...
Created a tremendous presence all night as
he looked to force the Wolfsburg midfield
onto the back foot. Booked for a foul on
Arnold moments after Schneiderlin also saw
yellow for a challenge on the same player,
and was replaced for the final 18 minutes.
31.
M. Schneide...
Won’t be pleased with the part he played in
Wolfsburg’s opener, but was a busy
influence in United getting on top of the
game thereafter. Took the ball superbly in a
tackle with Arnold, but was booked for a
supposed foul and then reacting badly to
the whistle. Could have seen red after
bringing down Draxler on the counter.
28.
W. Rooney
Somehow blazed well over when superbly
placed to equalise, and it was his only real
sight of goal. Worked hard for the team
though, and was even found at centre-back
at one point as his experience shone with
United throwing men forward.
10.
M. Depay
Denied at the last gasp on a couple of
occasions, but tried to play a few too many
leisurely passes at times that were never
going to pay off. One delicious cross almost
hit the mark as Martial attacked in the
centre, but his booking for a supposed
raised arm on Trasch was undeserved.
7.
A. Martial
Did superbly to leave Rodriguez floundering,
only for his neat cut-back to be wasted by
Rooney. Constantly asked questions of the
Wolfsburg back line, and nearly got on the
end of a Depay cross to give United the
lead. A great leader of the line.
9.
P. Jones
Replaced Schweinsteiger for the latter
stages.
4.
A. Young
Replaced Valencia at half-time and showed
great discipline and strength in key
positions, particularly when easing out
Caligiuri as Wolfsburg attacked. Booked for
time wasting.
18.
A. Pereira
Came on for his Champions League debut,
replacing Depay after 62 minutes and was
a great addition in all phases of play. Late
free-kick attempt caught the top of the wall.

Asante Mungu kwa kusikia na tumepata point tatu, Glory Glory Man United.

ndo maana hadi kaona noma kupiga penalty akaona bora amuachia juan mata

Penalty taking depends on who is at the top of the pecking order. After missing a penalty last time, Rooney isn't at the top now.

That's how LvG operates...

Aisee leo full presha...tulizidiwa kiungo leo.
