The deceased, Late Odion Aimeyekagbon

Following the coldblooded murder of a security guard in Lagos state, the nephew of a monarch in the State, Enibalomo, who allegedly ordered his thugs to kill the security guard, Odion Aimeyekagbon, has been nabbed by the police.

According a Punch report, policemen attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, had been trailing the suspect for about two months before he was eventually arrested.

It will be recalled that PUNCH Metro had exclusively reported on October 3, that Enibalomo allegedly instructed some hoodlums to torture the deceased and his colleague while they were performing their official duty at the Bello Folawiyo Government Reserve Area, Ketu.

Our correspondent had also reported that the security guards, who were employees of Real Striker Security Company, had requested that the monarch's nephew present a gate pass before he could leave the estate premises, a request said to have angered him.

It was also said that the assailants, who were at large, smashed Aimeyekagbon's head against an iron pillar, killing him on the spot.

A resident of the estate, who craved anonymity for fear of being hunted by the gang, told our correspondent on the phone that Enibalomo's arrest was historic in the neighbourhood.

He said, "His arrest has been a subject of discussion among residents since last week. It is very remarkable. Justice must be done for the soul of the guard and his family," he said.

The deceased's brother, Osas Aimeyekagbon, also expressed joy over the arrest of the suspect.

"I am really happy that the ringleader has been arrested. The police should go after others too and prosecute them so that my brother's soul can rest in peace. I just hope the influence of the suspect would not make this matter to be swept under the carpet."

A solicitor of the deceased's family, Mr. Madoka Okoli, commended the police for tracking down Enibalomo. He also urged them to arrest the fleeing assailants.

However, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said Enibalomo turned himself in at the station.

"The suspect came to report himself when he learnt that his name was mentioned in connection with the crime. He is undergoing interrogation now and he has not been indicted," he said.
