Kenya has recorded 400 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 5,068 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 7.9%.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health said the total confirmed positive cases are now 186,453 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,989,066.
“From the cases 386 are Kenyans while 14 are foreigners. 220 are males and 180 females. The youngest is a 12-day-old infant while the oldest is 97 years,” reads the statemenet.
The 400 cases are distributed across the country as follows: Nairobi 155, Kilifi 43, Uasin Gishu 34, Siaya 21, Kiambu 19, Busia 18, Mombasa 16, Kisumu 13, Nyamira 11, Nakuru 11, Narok 6, Kwale 5, Marsabit 5, Murang’a 5, Nyandarua 4, Nyeri 4, Kisii 4, Homa Bay 4, Bomet 3, Kajiado 3, Kakamega 3, Kitui 3, Kericho 2, Migori 2, Machakos 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Embu 1, Turkana 1, West Pokot 1 and Garissa 1.
At the same time, 7 patients are reported to have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in the month of June 2021. The cumulative fatalities now stand at 3,697.
Meanwhile, 354 patients are reported to have recovered from the disease, 259 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care program while 95 from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 129,165 out of whom 93,650 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 35,515 are from various health facilities.
According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 1,133 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,387 patients are under the Home Based Isolation and Care program.
“113 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 30 of whom are on ventilatory support and 46 on supplemental oxygen. 37 patients are under observation. Another 185 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 163 of them in general wards and 22 in High Dependency Units (HOU),” said the Ministry.
The Ministry further announced that as of July 6, a total of 1,495,120 vaccines had been administered across the country out of which the total first doses are 1,020,120 while second doses are 475,000.
“The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 46.6% with the majority being males at 55% while females are at 45%. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 1.8%,” said the Ministry.
