Kenyan lovebirds arrested in US for abandoning child as they gambled
Amstrong Otieno and Maureen Chero were arrested in the US after neglecting their child to go gambling
A Kenyan couple has been charged with child desertion after they left their son in the car as they went gambling in Leesville, US on February 24.
Maureen Cheto and Amstrong Otieno were arrested after their son, two-year old was found alone in their car in the parking lot of Lake Charles casino.
Police went to the casino at about 11.20pm after reports that the boy was unattended to.
The officers unlocked the car,checked on the boy and CCTV footage indicated that Cheto 23 and Otieno 30 were at the casino.
When the officers spoke to the couple they admitted leaving their son sleeping in the car while they gambled.
According to the release papers seen by Jambo Jet news, the couples were booked at the Calcasieu Correctional Center and given a bond of $7,000 (Sh718,200) each.
The papers also indicate that the boy was released to the custody of another family member.
