Harambee Stars will face rivals and neighbours Kilimanjaro Stars in a build up contest at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday
This is going to be the 47th meeting between the two sides, the recent one coming on December 10, 2013, during Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.
Kenya has won nineteen times as compared to Tanzania, who have won fourteen times, with thirteen games ending in a draw.
Kenya’s chances of making it to the Afcon final are slim, considering they are in the bottom of Group ‘E’ with a single point, with Guinea Bissau having seven, Zambia and Congo having six points each.
Kilimanjaro Stars’ hopes of making it to Gabon are over with Egypt already sealing the only ticket in Group G which has the likes of Nigeria. Tanzania is at the bottom with a single point. But both sides are preparing for the matches, Tanzania at home against the Pharaoh’s of Egypt, same as Harambee Stars, who will welcome Congo.
Kenyan captain Victor Wanyama and lead striker Micheal Olunga are set to miss the friendly. The two players are however, expected to feature in Kenya's dead rubber 2017 Africa Cup of Nations clash against the Republic of Congo on June 5.
Okumbi, who is seeking his first win as Stars coach since taking over the team in March, has a host of both foreign and local based players to select from against the Taifa Stars, who jetted into the country on Friday.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Kenya : Wycliffe Ochomo is Kenya Premier League’s top scorer with eleven goals in fifteen matches, and it is his maiden call for the Stars. Whether he will replicate his league form to international platform is yet to be seen.
If there is one player, who has found the going tough in the international scene, then it is Jesse Were. He has been so successful in club level, and currently he is the most in form striker in the Zambian Premier League. Will it be different this time round?
Tanzania: Thomas Ulimwengu, TP Mazembe forward is one of the most experienced players in the squad despite being just 22. He has gone through the ranks, and he is expected to cause havoc to the Kenyan defense on Sunday.
John Bocco is another playe, who can be a real pain against any side if not well taken care off. The Azam striker should not be given time.
PROBABLE LINE-UPS : Kenya: Boniface Oluoch, James Situma, Aboud Omar, David Owino, Brian Mandela, Anthony Akumu, Johanna Omollo, Erick Johanna, Ayub Timbe, Paul Were, Jesse Were.
WHAT IS TANZANIA GOOD AT??? REALLY??
