The EU Delegation to Kenya, Invest Kenya, and Two Rivers International Finance & Innovation Centre (TRIFIC) co-hosted a lively side event on March 26, 2026, at the Kenya International Investment Conference 2026, highlighting Kenya's quick ascent to prominence as Africa's top business process outsourcing (BPO) destination.

H.E. Henriette Geiger, the EU Ambassador to Kenya, Ms. Brenda Mbathi, CEO of Trific, Ministry of ICT, and industry leaders like Elewa & Teleperformance all shared their perspectives during the conversation, and they all agreed that Kenya is redefining global digital collaboration rather than merely being a business process outsourcing hub.

With a young, computer-savvy workforce (75% under 35), good English fluency, and competitive costs, Kenya has established solid foundations that are perfect for European companies facing a scarcity of ICT skills (Germany alone has 14,000 unfilled tech posts). Real-time cooperation is made possible by time zone alignment with Europe. Leading the way in data governance: Kenya is poised to become the first country in Africa to obtain an EU data adequacy ruling, opening the door for smooth cross-border data flows and revolutionising digital trade.

The EU continues to bridge the digital gap in Kenya through initiatives like the Digitalisation for Development (D4D) Hub, strengthening data protection frameworks to align with EU standards, fostering trade partnerships that turn Kenya into a strategic nearshoring hub for European businesses. It backs this up with policy work to strengthen the enabling environment, high-level dialogue in the digital sector with the government.
