Following the eviction of vendors off Kampala streets, the state minister for works and transport Mr Musa Ecweru in his remarks said Government has turned the operation to car dealers operating along road reserves.
Government through the ministry of works and transport issues a directive ordering car dealers operating illegally on road reserves and pedestrian walk ways to vacate immediately.
With effect from next week, The ministry does not want to see car dealers selling cars along road reserves all people in that business should operate from with the car bonds” Said Echweru.
This operation targets areas along the Jinja road Corridor especially Nakawa-Kireka stretch where vehicles are displayed for sell.
This operation is in line with section 15 and 16 of the Roads act, 2019 which empowers the minister of works and transport to declare and gazette road reserves for public roads.
This Move intends to reduce traffic congestion, improve pedestrian safety and restore drainage along the Kireka-Nakawa stretch that has for long experienced flooding problems.
Previous Incidents
It should be noted that this is not the first time this is happening, In June 2025, the same ministry issued a 30 day ultimatum to car dealers to vacate rod reserves but all went in vain.
