Kabaka Ronald Mutebi has called on his subjects living in Europe to preserve their cultural heritage, remain united, and actively contribute to development initiatives both abroad and back home.
In a message dated May 23, 2026 and delivered on his behalf by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, during the Buganda Bumu European Convention (BBECO) 2026 in Germany, the Kabaka praised the annual gathering as an important platform that strengthens unity among Baganda in the diaspora.
“The arrangement of organizing these conventions is very good, and we appreciate it; it helps our people move together as children of one womb,” the Kabaka’s message read.
Held under the theme, “Preserving Culture and Advancing Development Across Nations,” the convention brought together Baganda from different parts of Europe to discuss cultural preservation, community development, and cooperation within the diaspora.
Kabaka Mutebi said the theme was a timely reminder of the responsibilities Baganda abroad carry in maintaining their identity while integrating into their host communities.
“Your responsibility to preserve our culture is immense, so that we do not lose it. At the same time, you should respect the traditions of the people you live with,” he said in the message.
The Kabaka also urged Baganda living overseas to focus on personal and collective development initiatives that would uplift their communities and bring dignity and pride to the kingdom.
He reminded attendees not to forget their homeland and encouraged them to maintain close ties with their families, communities, and leaders in Buganda.
Kabaka Mutebi further emphasized the importance of supporting Buganda Kingdom programs and participating in the kingdom’s structures, saying such involvement would strengthen unity and help address challenges facing the kingdom.
The message also conveyed appreciation to the Kabaka’s representatives and regional leaders across Europe, including officials from Rhinelands, the United Kingdom, and Sweden/Scandinavia, for their continued leadership and support to the diaspora community.
Special recognition was extended to the organizers of BBECO 2026, their partners, and the people of Germany for hosting the convention.
The Kabaka concluded by officially declaring the convention open and offering blessings to all participants.
“The convention is officially opened. May God protect you all,” the message concluded.
