A TikTok post circulated on 8 March 2026, claiming that snowfall had occurred in Jinja, Uganda. The video features images of icy roads and snow-covered vehicles to support its claim.
In the video, the narrator speaking in Luganda claims that Uganda has experienced its first-ever snowfall. The speaker alleges that an organization called “Ozone Layer Forecast” purportedly the agency responsible for Uganda’s weather confirmed the event.
According to the narrator, the residents of Jinja and the wider Ugandan public were shocked to wake up to streets, including the city's Main Street, blanketed in snow. The narrator concludes by urging skeptics to look at the footage as proof of the rare occurrence.
Verdict
JamiiCheck investigated the claims of snowfall in Jinja but found no evidence to support them. A search of credible news outlets and government platforms yielded no results. Furthermore, official updates from the Ministry of Water and Environment the Department of Meteorological Services which typically track weather events showed no record of the incident.
Furthermore, digital tools used to identify AI-generated content indicate that the images integrated into the video were created using AI.
