The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court on Wednesday ruled that Israel will extradite to the United States eight Israelis accused of defrauding U.S. senior citizens of $2 million.
The defendants, all in their 20s and 30s, allegedly phoned American pensioners, told them they had won the lottery and asked them for a fee of several thousand dollars for the transfer of the prize money, which in fact never existed.
The ruling will also affect the fate of 11 other Israelis accused of netting tens of millions of dollars from American seniors in a similar scam.
The eight men who are to be extradited were arrested in July, after Tel Aviv police raided an office they said served as the headquarters for the operation.
The investigation has been conducted in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement agencies.
