The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) welcomes the offensive by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo against the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).
It welcomes the offensive and encourages the Congolese Government for these military operations underway since February 26th that follow the decision of Heads of State and Government of the ICGLR at their summit held in Luanda in August 2014 when an ultimatum was launched to the FDLR for their unconditional disarmament until January 2015.
It's worth recalling that, the Heads of State had on this occasion, supported the option of military action against the FDLR, in the event of non-compliance with the six months-ultimatum they set the until January 2nd, 2015.
To date, the region's leaders had made the observation that no significant progress had been recorded regarding the voluntary disarmament and surrender of the Rwandan Hutu FDLR rebels.
