Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua’s whose peace-making mission to Tanzania late last year made headlines, has been praised for allegedly ‘saving’ Nigeria from a potential civil war.
According to reports in Nigerian news, Joshua allegedly sent a message to former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan shortly before Nigeria’s elections last year in April 2015.
According to one of his senior advisers, Ambassador Raphael Horsfall, “He told me categorically that I should go and tell Mr President that it is too late, that nothing can be done, that we will lose the election but God will prevail on the peace of Nigeria.”
Horsfall was speaking before a packed congregation at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos on Sunday 28th February 2016.
The service was also broadcast live on Emmanuel TV, Joshua’s television station which is increasingly popular in Tanzania, especially since its emergence on the DStv platform late last year.
“Mr President was calm after hearing that word from Prophet T.B. Joshua. Everyone was telling him to annul the election, which he had the power to do, but nobody knew this is actually the reason why His Excellency conceded defeat to the opposition,” Horsfall, currently working as a UN ambassador and in the office of the Nigerian presidency, testified.
According to Horsfall, the message from Joshua was instrumental in Jonathan’s historic concession of defeat which significantly doused tension in the nation.
Horsfall implored Nigeria’s current leadership under President Muhammad Buhari to seek 'spiritual guidance' from Joshua to address the economic and security challenges faced by the ‘giant’ of Africa.
In November 2015, Joshua was personally welcomed to Tanzania by President John Magufuli.
In his four day visit, he held extensive meetings with CHADEMA leader Edward Lowassa, with some political commentators attributing the former Prime Minister’s eventual acceptance of the election results to the counsel of the Nigerian pastor.
Both Magufuli and Lowassa are supporters of Joshua, having visited his church in Nigeria previously.
T.B. Joshua is cited as one of the inspirations behind President Magufuli’s ascendency to power.
He reportedly encouraged his presidential ambitions at a tender stage when the then Minister of Works visited the famous pastor in Nigeria.
