Fuel prices in Uganda have continued to rise, increasing the cost of transport, production and business operations.
In April this year, a litre of diesel in Kampala cost about Shs4,700. Today, the same litre sells at approximately Shs7,290 at many fuel stations across the capital, while upcountry prices range between Shs7,150 and Shs7,200. Petrol prices, meanwhile, range between Shs6,600 and Shs7,000 per litre.
The increase in diesel prices represents an additional Shs2,590 per litre, a rise of approximately 55 percent in six months.
For a vehicle with a 50-litre tank, the cost of filling up has increased from Shs235,000 in April to Shs364,500 today, requiring an additional Shs129,500.
The rising costs are also putting pressure on businesses that depend on diesel-powered generators, factory machinery and other equipment, raising concerns about production costs and the possibility of increased prices for goods and services.
As fuel prices continue to rise in Uganda, how much are motorists, businesses and ordinary citizens in other East African countries paying for fuel?
