Songea TanzaniaFirst of all, I hope you are in good health. You sure are busy, as far as I can see. I am writing To You to help us - frustrated volunteers with your advice. We are counting on your evaluation as well as exellent Africa connoisseur.
Ivana Parlov, as you well know 30 year old professor of German, started a project in Songea in 2010 called "Kolajna ljubavi". She collected funds and built an orphanage of capacity for 50 children. Volunteering was also a part of the project, so people from Croatia started to come in St. Anthony orphanage to work with children, teach them etc. As the time was passing by the amount of donnors and volunteers increased. According to Mrs. Parlov just in the first year (2010/11) they managed to collect over 100.000 and 2000 educational adoptions each in value of 120. You do the counting. Maybe numbers are overblown, but on the other hand, last years total (reported) income of her Foundation was 75.000 . However, according to our opinion children in the orphanage live in miserable conditions. They have the roof over their head and poor nutrition thatbis true, but with such amount of money thay manage to foundreis the children should live in excellent standard even for european lifestyle.The Croatian IRS, and a State attorney are having hard time with proving her an fraud, because of the as we call them "holes in laws" and the fact they do not know Tanzanian low. The one thing that can be done and that State attorney office recommended is to exspose her in media.
The fact that cannot be denied is the money, which people are paying for children and her virtual projects (this year she was actually collecting money in churches and schools all over Croatia to built the kindergarten which was already build).
What we would like to know and have oficial statement for is - does Tanzania have any regulations for children's nutrition and caregiving standards in orphanages. Ivana is publicly claiming /on national TV/ that social worker banned the meat more than once a week, fruit and milk more than twice a week in order to protect children and Tanzanian culture. She even explained also on Tv how physical punishing of african kids / egzample- with kneeling/ is something we european can not understand because that is in fact a part of tz culture. They are trying to present Tanzanians as the brutal apes /sorry for that/ and themselves as saints of course.
We know there are regulations but we believe that they are pretty much the same like in any other country, including Croatia, etc... but do you have anyone there who is willing to write them down? We do not belive that tanzania's low does not respect the whole world known rights of children. That it is forbidden to physicly punish children and that is not forbbiden by any law to give children milk and fruit every day, that they do not have to work in the field at the age of 5, that children can use proper beds, not sleep on dirty rags and plastic...
Those people are insane, they are convincing journalists and public that they are not allowed to give those children better life conditions.
In the last interview Ivana said that she is punishing children by kneeling when they do something wrong because children are asking her to punish them. And the worst thing was that she seemed to be convinced she is doing the right and normal thing, because she is just doing everything in accordance with law and regulation, as well as your's culture.food regulation:-We are not allowed to give children meat more than once a week. Milk? Ooh, we had a fight with the social worker for 3 cups per week. Eggs? No they do not eat eggs, thats against the rules... It's like Tanzania is in the stone age and what's good for our european children is too much for yours.
Please help us.We need oficial statements about regulationsWe need official documents about who the official care giver is and what are his obligations.
Any document from tz would help.If you are willing to give a statement on tv show we would be more than happy.
