The Minister of Water and Environment, Sam Cheptoris, said the enforcement exercise will begin next week and will apply to all offenders, regardless of their social or economic status.
Cheptoris emphasized that the move is aimed at restoring degraded wetlands, which play a critical role in environmental protection, including flood control, water filtration, and biodiversity conservation.

As an example, the minister pointed to a school in Seeta that was constructed within a wetland, noting that it will be among the structures earmarked for demolition to pave the way for ecological restoration.

The directive signals a renewed government effort to address wetland encroachment, which has been blamed for increasing flooding and environmental degradation in urban and peri-urban areas.
Authorities have previously issued warnings against illegal construction in wetlands, but enforcement has often been inconsistent. This latest move suggests a stricter, more decisive approach, with officials insisting that no individual or institution will be exempt.

The government is expected to work with environmental agencies and local authorities to implement the demolitions and restore affected ecosystems.
