We are living in interesting times.

Interesting indeed because we were fortunate enough to live through the cold war.

That we escaped unscathed -sort of, calls for humble thanks giving to the Almighty.

Many Nations were not so fortunate.

Somalia, Eastern Europe and many other nations have metamorphosised into totaly different sovereigns-some for the better, some for worse.

I am troubled however, by the rise of blantant Imperialism in the form of "Western Coalition" or "Coalition of the Willing" or to be blunt America, United Kingdom as the central axis for righting what they presume to be the wrongs in their economic world order.

We are now witnessing an exercise of bombardment with impunity by the western forces without due regard to the liberty of other nations.
First to face the music was Iraq.

The United Nations Security Council has been transformed into a rubber stamp for giving the green light to pulverise and ride roughshod over nations considered by the West to be unacceptable to them.

Assasination of foreign leaders formerly done by the Wests secret agencies is now not neccessary.

The UN Security Council is now there to give the green light for "Regime Changes".

What we are now witnessing in Libya, though partly a product of the Strongman Muammar Gaddafi, is unacceptable.

The African Union and the Arab League have all offered lukewarm responses to this turn of events.They are mumbering un-intelligible comments on the current state of affairs.

We have a saying in kiswahili"Ukiona mwenzio ananyolewa, wewe tia maji".

Western Imperialism wont stop at the Benghazi gates or Tripoli.

So long as there is no counter force against them then we should expect more turmoil that originates from the net, and spreads all over Africa and other third world countries.

Like I said , we have seen it all, we have lived in very interesting times.

I respect your opinions on the rise of global imperialism in which, at the same time, totally disagree with you. I don't think any of the western and some Arab nations would have intervened in Libya, had Gadhafi did like Hosni Mubarak did i.e. let the peaceful protests took place. What we are witnessing today is the rise of the wananchi demanding equal rights, transparency and democracy. The Egyptians did. The Tunisians did.

No NATO country intervened in Bahrain, Comoro, Tunisia and Egypt. The wananchi are tired of these stupid, arrogant and heartless tyrants like Gadafi and his sons, and Ben Ali who have been in power for decades enriching themselves while the majority are languishing in deep poverty.

Just a fortnight ago, US froze all assets that belongs to Gadafi and his family worth about 30 Billion USD, and at the same time Colonel Gadafi offered to give every Libyans about 400 USD as a token of appreciation in supporting the so called "Green Revolution" ha ha ha! This is a joke!

Before you start blaming the West, ask yourself this: WHERE IS CHINA, RUSSIA, CHAVEZ, IRAN AND AU?

The silence of countries like China in this crisis says a lot....they are even far more dangerous than the west.

I wish this wave of uprisings could spread all over the sub-saharan Africa ndio watu kama CCM watatia adabu.

Libya belongs to all Libyans and not just to colonel and his sons!

Vuvuzela, as it seems you are too preoccupied with your own national social problems to the extent of not appreciating the global scene.

It is quite unthinkable that the solution to our problems have an exit in the form of our former colonial masters.

That is what is not palatable to me.

I do agree on your observation for an upheaval of the present socio-economic ruling class as per the Tanzanian scene.

However relegating future ambitions and aspirations to the global ruling class is an obvious return to self propagated colonialism, that our offsprings will have a field day in condemning us.

The solutions to our problems do not lie in the hands of the axis powers, ie Americans and the British.

I, for one is of the view that let ones identity be formed from within the countires internal political dynamics and not from abroad.

The Americans had their civil war, the French had their Revolution, the Russians their Bolshevik revolution while the Chinese had their Long March.

All these helped shape their present identities.

My dear VUVU, accepting these Global Imperialists as a way to solve your internal problems is both politically naive and at worst inconsequential in the long run.One does not have to be a nuclear physicist to understand that the global powers have their own agenda in these confllicts.

At the start of the Iraqi war even a primary school observer could note that there was no Weapon Of Mass Destruction in the hands of Saddam. Much as Saddam was hated by his own people.

The Global Imperialists had their day and today the rest is history from which sober minds must learn from.

Vuvuzela Tanzania is for Tanzanians, and party coconuts of all walks of life belong here.Lets bang our heads, even to the extent of breaking them but-DO NOT EXTERNALISE THE SOLUTIONS TO YOUR PROBLEMS

I like the way you have paraphrased president Chavez's remarks on the ongoing "coalition" operations in Libya. Regardless of their sense of right or wrong, recent events in Libya pose several questions regarding the selective nature of response by the international community. The precedence had already been set by events in areas considered non strategic by the western powers throughout the 20th century and had it not been for the cold war, meddling in the South Asian conflicts between 1950 and 1973 might not have happened. Similarly recall the first Afghan war in the late 1970s.

Why hasn't there ever been an intervention when a black African country is concerned? The political impasse and displacement of hundreds of thousands of Ivorians since their general elections? Khartoum's campaigns in Darfur?

On another note the integrity and impartiality of the UN have also been put under the microscope. Is the UN and the security council in particular, a body that exists to simply serve the interests of WWII victors? How come no one else has a say? Similarly since when did international law become party to violating the sovereignty of a member state? And how come it is only applied selectively?

Who has the legal mandate to rule on the righteousness of sides involved in an internal conflict? And how is that mandate awarded and by whom?

While I respect your point of view, I don't let myself believe in conspiratorial theories or myths
 

So if the opposition in Tanzania start to demand the incumbent government to be held accountable and responsible...like Chadema supporters have been engaging lately, would you say it will be because of external influence i.e. the west is behind the likes of Slaa and Lipumba?
My take: You have been too brainwashed by the "Siasa" that has been propagated into your mind since the old Nyerere days to the point that even when wananchi are tired of the ineffeciencies of the govts in power and start to demand their rights, then you regard that as attributed to the western influence. Set yourself free from Ujamaa's propaganda. Emancipate yourself from the defunct Warsaw Pact polarization. Think in a big picture

I suggest you go and dig deep into the so called "US Interests Overseas" then you will be able to see why US will never ever sit aside and look if hotspots like Israel, Taiwan, S. Korea, Egypt, Saudia, Kuwait etc are invaded, and do nothing even if there's chaos and genocide in countries like Somalia, Ivory Coast, Tanzania or Nigeria.
 

Vuvuzela it is apparent that you have a parochial view on this whole issue based on a blank bank of information on the emancipation of Africa.

It is actually sad that your vision is limited to the current state of affairs in the country-I am not surprised that if we had more of your type , probably Mozambique ,Zimbabwe, Angola and Namibia and Cape Verde would stillbe in colonial shackles today.

It is actually sickening to note that for a poor man like yourself castigating the principles of ujamaa.
I can be 100% sure that Vuvuzela does not have any wealth to talk about let alone entreprenurial capabilities to remove himself from his own in-born bondage.
Here we are, America and Britain bombing away at some hapless arab, and a not-so-long-freed-slave yapping away and clapping as if the said powers will offer some coins for him.

As for the internal political dynamics of Chadema nad CCM , these will play theselves out not before long-and this is an internal matter, the bottom line is IT IS THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE LAST SAY.
For one to wish foreigner to interfere in internal matters is absurdity of the highest order.
 

Love this gentleman here. It's all true and the fact that UN took action on Libya some keep calling the West interfering on other countries while these so called leaders are slaughtering their people. We have to understand it's true UN is very difficult place to archive any concrete resolution but this time they did the right thing. If we go back and see what happened when the war in Iraq was launched not all countries were on board and its clear that opposing leaders should have been forthcoming. UN did the right thing this time because Gadaffi and many more so called African leaders are tyrant and continue to brutalize their people. If people are oppressed and they can't even demonstrate or organize peacefully, some thing wrong with that democracy.

The failures and shortcomings of UN shouldn't stop the institution to stop more genocide and bloodshed​

It is unfortunate that at this day and age there are persons that still beleive that the "muzungu" is there for their personal interests and welfare, to say the least an African!!
I pity persons like Niweze ,Vuvuzela and the like.
Try emigratimg to these so called "western countries" to get a taste of their liking for you.It is not before long that you will be classified as a third rate human being.
