Position Overview:

The Gender Advisor will lead the development and implementation of positive community gender norms and support healthy behaviors among the targeted population. S/he will be responsible for building the capacity of the Project team on gender programming for better Project results. The Technical Advisor will ensure evidence-based, scalable normative interventions and effective male engagement approaches are implemented to create, transform, and reinforce positive social norms. She/he will ensure the program implement gender-transformative SBC interventions that address inequalities in service utilization, especially among youth. S/he will lead the Project team in engaging the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to support gender and respectful care programming

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, or Development Studies or demonstrated equivalent through experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of senior-level experience providing technical advice on gender equality in programming.
  • Minimum five years' experience designing, managing, and implementing programs that seek to increase gender equality, empower women and girls, support youth programming and strengthen RMNCAH service delivery
  • Experience coaching and mentoring youth, including gender training/capacity building
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop capacity in youth- and gender-based approaches in national programs and technical staff
  • Strong analytical skills, especially for conducting gender analyses.
  • Good knowledge of gender and global development issues, preferably understanding USAID's approach to gender equality.
  • Familiarity with different monitoring and evaluation approaches.
  • Excellent group facilitation, multi-stakeholder consultation, and strategic planning skills.
  • Knowledge of participatory approaches to development.
  • Strong writing skills, both for technical and program reports.
  • Knowledge of policy advocacy processes.
  • Experience working with civil society organizations, governments, donors, and international organizations.
  • Fluent in English (written and oral communication) and Swahili.
  • Able to undertake frequent travel nationally and internationally up to 60%.
