There’s light at the end of the tunnel for a Kenyatta University graduate who begs and lives in the streets because of poverty.
The internet was awash with the story of John Kariuki on Tuesday, February 21, with photos showing the graduate who has made Nairobi streets his home, in tattered clothes and unkempt hair.

Also an orphan, Kariuki ekes out a living pushing handcarts in the Capital’s downtown. It is also worth noting that he is an old boy of the Starehe Boys Centre and has been searching for a job for years but has been unlucky.

There’s however hope for him as as soon as his story came to light, well wishers started coming to his rescue.

Firstly, the Starehe Old boys community say Kariuki will no longer spend another night in the cold as it will put a roof over his head while also catering for his psychological counselling.
Transport Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera is said to have also reached out to the graduate and will act as his mentor henceforth.

Also, another Kenyan by the name Jane Wa Bonie has promised Kariuki a few bales of mitumba (second hand clothes) as business start up.

Well wishers also managed to pool KSh 29, 216 to assist the struggling Biotechnology graduate.
The most notable interest however has come from Youth Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki who has set up a meeting with the graduate with an aim of assisting him.
